First, yes the cover is awesome and isn't he just WOW and loving his tat :)
Okay, I really liked this book and think it sets up this new world fabulously. There were a few slow pieces, but I usually expect it in the first book in a series. The author's writing style makes it easy to love the characters. She also has a twist on dragons that I have never read before in their creation which is cool. I think Myrna rocks because she is this five foot nothing woman who stands up to dragons what is not to love. She is kind & caring, but will not be pushed around, and I love her integrity. Then there is her ex-boyfriend Trian who brings all sorts of tension to the story. There are all sorts of secrets, plots, drama, attacks, and so much more. There are some things that I could see coming in this book, but there were also some things that came to light that I was holding my breath saying NO it can't be!! I love when authors surprise even if I don't like the surprise (sigh), but you have to read it because I refuse to ruin this journey for you. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next, and I secretly hope that Myrna & Trian continue to be the main characters because I love them.
I recommend this book to all my dragon lovers & paranormal fans because it was a great read, and you will enjoy it!
By a stroke of luck, Myrrna lands a job negotiating a peace treaty between Relobu; the most powerful dragon in North America, and Hian-puo; the dragon lord of China. Myrna's confident she can negotiate the release of a group of captured dragons and scientists, yet Hian-puo is proving uncooperative. Surrounding by a group of human hating dragons, Myrna's life is clearly in danger, yet this weak, inferior human proves just how tough she really is. If you can start a day dealing with a pregnant dragon and an irate farmer mourning the loss of his recently deceased cow, then a negotiation that quickly spirals into a threat against the dragon species is definitely within Myrna's skill set.
OK Myrna does spend a large amount of time on the losing side of a battle when she goes one on one with a variety of dragons, yet she manages to prove resourceful and has enough sass and attitude to face off creatures that could kill her with one swipe of their claws. She remains a personable heroine who believably handles the situations she finds herself in. There is a romantic element, yet it's not an overwhelming part of the story line. The history of the dragons is interesting, plus of course those humans born with the ability to dragonspeak certainly make interspecies communication easier. I wouldn't rate this book on par with GA Aiken's marvellous "Dragon Kin" books, but this series displays some great potential and I'll definitely be reading "Dancing With Dragons" and "'Til Dragons Do Us Part".
Dragons now rule the world and humans are struggling to fit around them. Our heroine, Myrna Banks, is a dragonspeaker and works for DRACIM (a kind of human/dragon liaison). Myrna is acting as the assistant to Emory, a pompous incompetent twit, because a year ago her boyfriend, Trian, left her and took confidential DRACIM papers with him. Myrna nearly lost her job completely but instead was demoted - she still does all the work but he takes the credit.
The inevitable happens. Myrna's ex comes back on the scene working (in some shady capacity) for the local Dragon Lord, Lord Relobu. A group of scientists attached to the Dragon Lord's staff had gone to China to visit a research laboratory and had been detained by the Chinese Dragon Lord. Lord Relobu wants DRACIM to help him negotiate for the release of his staff.
Together Trian and Myrna (plus friends) must try to negotiate with an egotistical Chinese Dragon Lord and discover why he captured them in the first place. There's lots of blood and gore (not for the vegetarians amongst us), double-dealing and romance along the way.
I've got to say I saw a couple of things coming - but that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. I only wish it could have been longer. I would say this was an action/mystery with a bit of romance, rather than a romance with a bit of plot thrown in - which also makes a nice change.
