One of nicest things about Christina Jones books is the plausibility of the characters. In this book, the side story about Cherish and Brian is beautifully written and very endearing. It is made believable by the fact they are ordinary people, whose lives are rarely put into books. In fact I was as satisfied by the ending of this separate story as the main one. Christina has a gentle, warm wit and an ability to tap into modern culture whilst retaining a traditional and uplifting feeling to her books. I was slightly concerned that as she is writing a book a year at present her books would become formulaic and less satisfying to read. I need not have worried; this is as good as her previous books. Guaranteed to make you smile and bring a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
This story centres around Frankie, the new owner of a vintage dress shop and Dexter who runs the flower stall and their developing romance. One or two of the old regular characters feature and plenty more are mentioned in conversations throughout the story. Add an eccentric medium, a few (equally eccentric) ghosts, a blossoming romance between two more characters and some poignant moments and you have another lovely read...
Christina manages to give all her characters depth while making them instantly likeable, honest and humorous and I find that there is something about each of them that I can relate to. And of course there's a happy ending for everybody!
I read somewhere that this would be the last book in this series - I hope it isn't as I would really miss my visits to this lovely, quirky, corner of Berkshire!
I give 5 stars because there are no more to give.
