Product description

Product Description

Yorkston / Thorne / Khan release their new album ‘Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars’. It follows the band’s debut album - 2016’s critically acclaimed ‘Everything Sacred’ - and presents a confluence of currents, among them the north Indian sarangi; jazz-tinged bass reminiscent in places of Danny Thompson; acoustic guitar that owes a debt to Elizabeth Cotton, Dick Gaughan and Mississippi John Hurt; and three very different vocalists - James Yorkston (East Neuk of Fife), Jon Thorne (Isle Of Wight) and Suhail Yusuf Khan (New Delhi).
CD in mini gatefold wallet with 12 page booklet.

The heavyweight double vinyl edition comes in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner and bonus vinyl-only track ‘First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’.

An amazingly sensitive fusion of British folk and Indian music. The Sufi singing by Khan will touch your soul. See them live and it's even more spectacular, it made the hair on the back oF my head stand up. The musicianship of all three of them is exceptional. The bass at times is reminiscent of Danny Thompson on John Martyn's Solid Air album. In fact I wonder if Martyn was alive, if he wouldn't want to play with these guys. If you like acoustic music that is respectful of tradition but pushes the boundaries, then like King of the South Seas and maybe Cam Penner, this could be for you?

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghazals and Soul 11 April 2017

What a unique album, lovely combination of East (ghazals and sitar) meets West (soft indie). I had this playing as really relaxing and inspiring music as I was sketching, came out with some pretty neat artwork, thanks to these guys. Definitely glad I found these guys. I was able to listen to it earlier than Amazon's release date because I purchased mine on iTunes. Happy listening guys!
