"This pocket guide to neuroanatomy and function is based largely on the drawings of Frank Netter, MD, the famous medical illustrator. Netter's diagrams are combined with a series of tables summarizing key points of clinical anatomy and occasionally pathology. Drawings are in full color and well labeled. Each drawing is accompanied by a table highlighting anatomic and functional relevance. Occasionally, key points of pathophysiology are included as well...Given the abundance and quality of illustrations, this is a worthy complement to a standard anatomy or neuroanatomy text." -Doody's Review Service
"[An] easy to use, digestible single source for common neurological problems...Clinical angles on the pathology make it great for PBL"

It's very detailed and as clear a set of drawings as you could wish for. Simple tables with function/location/structures are included on many pages. If you are an enthusiast of the subject then it's a lovely reference. If you're a student, add a decent atlas with MRI scans such as this one The Brain Atlas: A Visual Guide to the Human Central Nervous System
Between the two you'll have everything neuroanatomy wise you could ask for from textbooks. At least in my own limited experience.
Great companion book for any neuroscience general text like Bear's Neuroscience or Kandel's Principles of Neural Science.
Chapters include Bony coverings of brain and spinal cord, neuroanat of the "soft bits", good detail on cranial and key peripheral nerves and the autonomics too.
A good all rounder and worth the money.

I am a medical illustrator, and I rely on books like this one-and like Netter's Atlas of Human Neuroscience-to augment what I know or have on hand as references. When the book arrived, I consciously & systematically tested it against my other neuroanatomy references, e.g., Gray's Anatomy (British and American), Blumenfeld's Neuroanatomy, Manter and Gatz' Neuroanatomy, Noback/Demarest's The Nervous System, and two or three other handbooks, including Netter's Atlas of Human Neuroscience. This book passed the test, which included presenting it with a neural pathway only described in detail within the past 7-10 years. It may deserve a five-star rating. I gave it 4 because I have found that Netter's command of anatomy in general is not always reliable.
It is very comprehensive and can probably be used as the only reference book by some.
It has a lot of the pictures from Netter's human anatomy and then some that won't be in there, which are specific to neuro.
In addition, many anatomical drawings will come with a page listing functions, connectivity, effects of lesions, and so on.
I highly recommend it.
Unlike other books, it's also very portable.
The only downside is that because the book is quite small, the drawings are also tiny.
If you need large pictures, you might not like it so much.
