What fun! I know, the series is called Dark Darcy and at times, he lives up to his name but the style of writing is light, fun and just how a mystery story should be written, in my humble opinion. These stories aren't thrillers so no need for an angst warning, rather, they are in the style of Barbara Silkstone's Mister Darcy's Dogs series. The four books take us through the whole plot of Pride and Prejudice and have all the elements and characters plus a couple of extras thrown in for good measure, although they don't dominate at all. Each book could be read as a stand alone if you know the P & P plot (you don't? where have you been the last 200 years!) but they are better read sequentially. I loved how they followed that plot but not always in the way you expected. Lizzy is her usual stubborn, independent self and Darcy has that arrogant streak in him we secretly love. Penelope Swan has woven in four separate mysteries into these books and they slide effortlessly alongside the plot. Nice, easy but good reading.

The concept of Elizabeth and Darcy being involved in mysterious happenings at Netherfield is rather intriguing to say the least. I'm hoping book 2 provides the answer.

I was sceptical at first about the combination of mystery and P&P but I actually really enjoyed this book, so much that I read the whole book in a day.

Not worth buying. The idea isn't bad but the execution doesn't live up to the promise. Writing not good and lacks style.

Best read near Halloween - is Netherfield haunted? With Wickham being a highwayman, this is an interesting adventure, with a nice plot, but the original narrative seems crowbarred in. Sadly, while there is a resolution of sorts, as part 1 of a series, there is no ultimate ending. Pleasant read.

These books by Penelope Swan are quirky and fun. A totally different take on P&P. Really like them, though it must be said there isn't really much mystery in them. However, if you have a rainy afternoon to pass, these Dark Darcy Mysteries, will help you do just that.
