Speaks up to tell you what the problem is and where it is so you know what to do.
• T
ests itself constantly and lets you know everything’s working before you go to sleep.
Nest Protect has been tested to comply with safety standards in UK and Europe set out by BSI and European Regulations.

Meet Nest Protect

The Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm speaks up to tell you what the problem is and where it is. It can even send an alert to your phone if an alarm goes off or the batteries are getting low.

Make sure you have the right Nest Protect for your home. Just check to see if your current smoke alarm is connected to wires. If it is, you want Nest Protect (Wired 120V). If it isn't, get Nest Protect (Battery).

Know more, worry less.

The simple act of beeping has saved thousands of lives. But a beep only lets you know that there's a problem. Somewhere. In an emergency, you don't have time to guess what's wrong. With Nest Protect, you don't have to. Meet the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.

Always know. From anywhere.

Get a message on your phone or tablet if Nest Protect sounds the alarm for smoke or carbon monoxide. It will also send you a message if the batteries start to run low. And you can check the status of batteries and sensors at any time on the Nest app.

Get a Heads-Up before the emergency.

If there's only a little smoke, Nest Protect can give you an early warning before it has to turn on a loud, howling alarm. We call it Heads-Up - Nest Protect lights up yellow and
tells you where the problem is so you can take care of it in peace.

A clear voice when things go wrong.

In addition to an alarm sound, Nest Protect speaks to you with a human voice. It tells you what the problem is and where it is so you know what to do. And if you have more than one Nest Protect, they can speak up at the same time even if Wi-Fi is down.

Makes you a promise.

When you turn off the lights to go to bed, you'll see your Nest Protect glow green for a second. That means batteries and sensors are working. It also means you won't be waking up at 2am to low-battery chirps. Sweet dreams.

Works with your Nest Thermostat.

If Nest Protect senses dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, it can tell your Nest Thermostat to turn off your boiler-a possible source of poisonous carbon monoxide leaks*. Nest Protect's activity sensors also improve the Auto-Away feature of your Nest Learning Thermostat.

Lights your path at night.

Next time you stumble out of bed in the middle of the night, Nest Protect will automatically light your way.

Sees what's invisible.

You can't see carbon monoxide. Or smell it. Its early symptoms are easily mistaken for the flu, but longer exposure can be deadly. That's why Nest Protect constantly looks for dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.

Easy installation.

Both Nest Protect (Wired 120V) or Nest Protect (Battery) take only minutes to install.

Connecting to Wi-Fi and setting them up with your iPhone, iPad or Android device also takes just a few minutes. Every Nest Protect in your home will connect to the others automatically.

Couldn't be more disappointed in this. Bought two with good intentions for our new house with a baby on the way wanted the reassurance of combined smoke and CO detector as well as thinking the light function would be useful if up and moving around during the night. Had read many, many reviews and knew of a few faulty reports but thought they would be few and far between.

The installation was easy. The set up process was OK but try as I might I could never get the app / nest account to recognise a UK postcode. I tried mine, my parents, my sisters and my works which are all within a few miles of each other but no joy.

The big issue came one morning within a fortnight of installation when Nest announced that smoke had been detected in the hall. There was no smoke. It went off and half an hour later the same thing, and again. The only resolution was to take it off the ceiling and remove the batteries. Two main issues for me in this - one if it's giving me a false positive in that it's detecting something is there when it's not, I can't trust that it will alarm when smoke really is detected. Secondly, a false alarm cannot be silenced without dismantling the unit and removing the batteries. Given that I was away at work when it alarmed then asking my wife at 8months pregnant to stand on a chair to get it off the ceiling did not go down well!

Secondly, the nightlight function which goes on as you move around under Nest is really not that bright. It lit up... you can see that the unit has lit up... but it barely lights the floor up. One unit was in a hall way and the other in a living room and neither provided enough illumination that you could have avoided anything.

All in all I had great hopes, sorely disappointed. Amazon as always great service and returned the unit.

We bought 7 of them for our house, after using them almost 3 months, my resume is that the product is not worth the money.

My first issue was after 4 weeks when al of the sudden one of the smoke detectors informed me that the battery is low, within 2 hours it went from yellow to red (stating that the battery is completely empty) at 3am in the morning with a annoying beep...

I had to remove the detector from the celling to search for a screwdriver to open the backplate and to remove all batteries to get my peace back.

I contacted nest support and the thought it could be an issue with the batteries (which i thought so not, as the where all full after i checked them), but the shipped my replacement batteries and i should try if the problem will occur again. After the replacement of the batteries it took again 4 week when the same error occurred, i got once again in touch with Nest and they shipped me a free replacement unit.

Now after another 4 Weeks a another of my 7 detectors wen't on this night stating there is smoke (red alarm not yellow), again in the middle of the night, but there was no smoke, all 7 detectors where beeping and talking (this is one of the stressfull situations you can imagine), again the screwdriver and the removement of the batteries was the solution for peace...

I think every cheap detector from the supermarket is much better than this overpriced fail construction.

Within 3 Months, 3 Errors on 2 Smoke detectors out of 7.... that can not be by chance, this is a serious problem with the products.

So don't buy it if you a searching for security and peace, it will only make you unhappy and will steel your sleep.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
For two years Tony Fadell worked on Apple's first generation of iPods, earning him the title of "one of the fathers of the iPod". He then turned his attention to the thermostat and smoke alarm. The results were good, so good that Google bought the company for $3.5 billion. This is the Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector and it bears all of the design hallmarks that you might expect from the former Apple man. Everything about this product is classy, from the packaging and instructions to the actual product and the way it operates.

This is the battery option, there is a wired version available. If you're replacing an existing smoke detector it's worth checking what you've got before you place your order. I assumed that an existing smoke detector in my hall was battery powered, because I'd replaced the battery in it. Nope. The battery was there in case of a power cut, it was actually a wired detector.

There's a few things about Nest Protect that makes it different. Firstly it's a Smoke AND Carbon Monoxide detector that can tell the difference between Steam and Smoke. Secondly Nest doesn't just beep at you, it talks. One push of the large central button and my Nest very politely says "Ready in the Kitchen". If there is a problem it will tell you "Be aware, there's smoke in the Kitchen" or "Emergency, there's Carbon Monoxide in the Kitchen".

There's a Nest App for Android and iOS that's free to download. It's a clean and simple App that allows you to set the room that you've put your Nest in - you can purchase multiple Nests and set each one up in a different location.
