    NERO 12 Platinum (PC)
I'd avoid this product and this company until further notice if I were you. This product promises so much and delivers so little. The company is not the Nero of old and in my opinion, their customer service response is totally unhelpful, arrogant, insensitive and fraudulent. There are better products and companies out there that are much more respectful of their customers. I purchased this product as a download. It came in several bits, each with its own installation file and serial number. Only one item installed: and on that, everything failed to work apart from the included bluray player. This works but with constant freezes and it will not play full screen. I'm running Windows 7 Pro on an ultra high spec PC with always up to the minute updates. I have just downloaded a trial version of a similar product by Cyberlink and the install was an effortless experience, though with a few similar spyware issues.

I contacted Nero who admitted the problems but flatly refuse to offer a refund. (full copy of the email and header available) Another gripe I have with this product is that no amount of clicking on the Nero 12 icon or the link in the start menu will work unless you enable scripts that undermine your computers security and your privacy. (I work in a leading edge, online security role) Such a shame that Nero, formerly one of the best products and companies out there has hit rock bottom. In my opinion, Nero 12 is spyware, spamware, bloatware and crapware all in one package. The company and its customer support is the worst I have ever dealt with, ever! Come on Nero, you use to be so much better than this, what has gone wrong? Abject fail

I have read the good reviews here with incredulity, and I wonder who are you guys really are.

Had Nero 8 but would not load on my new windows 8 laptop so I purchased the new version of Nero platinum12, I wish I hadn't bothered. It is very difficult to use and you get no feedback from Nero support. My old system Nero 8 was simple to use and I got along with it fine, so why make things complicated with the new version that needs a Ba in science to understand it. Tried to convert music files to Mp3 files which it says it does but nowhere within the system can I find this. When you try to copy it just copies what you put into the computer. I tried saving the files in the library but that was also fruitless. It could be that I am doing something wrong, but I have tried everything, if you are intent on buying this item make sure that you know the pitfalls because you will get no feed back from Nero.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The software was installed on a fairly high specification desktop PC running Windows 7 Home 32 Bit with a quad core processor, 4Gb RAM and a fast graphics card.
The installation is a lengthy procedure involving extra software calls and frequent updates and many extras that were previously installed by DVD are now free downloads from the Nero Site.
There seemed to be only minor improvements over Nero 11 unless Windows 8 compatibility is the main reason for the upgrade.
Within the suite of applications I have always thought that other software does everything better apart fron the Nero Burning Rom application which of course you can buy on its own for much less.
I have tried Nero BackItUp in all versions and find it not at all intuitive unless you leave it in Auto to just back up everything. I much prefer to trust Acronis Trueimage for my data backup.
The Nero Kwik Media organisor which constantly reported "fail to respond" is bettered by the free Google Picasa.
I thought that Nero Recode would be useful but trying the feature to extract AAC audio from a video crashed and gave the heplful error message as "attempted to divide by zero"
The flagship application Nero Burning Rom for the first time since using Nero kept giving me "Burn Process Failed" in the log and was the final reason for me uninstalling it and going back to Nero 8.
I think there are going to be plenty of fixes to download in the future.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Some of the earlier versions of this software were actually rather good, and because I haven't upgraded for some years, I decided to give Nero 12 Platinum a try. I have to say, I wish I hadn't. Whilst the earlier version I have launched and ran without any problems, Nero 12 took an entire afternoon to load, whilst constantly telling me to check for updates. I mean, why should this brand new product need so many updates for heavens sake?? Finally I had the product loaded up and running (thanks largely to considerable help from a more IT savvy friend who managed to locate and
download some of the files it was asking for). Firstly, this is not as easy to use as I had hoped. In fact it is very involved and rather infuriating at times. I've only managed to use some of the same basic audio/video burning tasks that my earlier version of Nero contained, and I received a number of different error messages in the process. I have decided not to try any of the more advanced functions because Blu-Ray discs do not come cheap, and the reliability of this product in undertaking even simple tasks does not inspire confidence. I would not recommend this software to anyone who has an earlier version, and if you do want to upgrade then buy something different.
