I was really looking forward to this disc, being a neil diamond fan. As I got to the middle of the disc, my joy turned to horror. They used the live versions of the songs for nearly half of this collection! When I got this collection I was expecting to hear the original versions of these songs, not some re-done live versions. The worst is this cover of a cover where Neil does a reggae version of Red, Red, Wine. It is truly atrocious! Why oh why do they do this? The same thing happened with the Paul McCartney Wingspan CD where they put on a live version of "Coming Up". Things get better from I am...I Said on Disc 2 onward, fortunately they weren't able to find some tacky live versions of these songs.

I had high hopes of this album as I am currently replacing my vinyl favourites. Unfortunately there are too many live versions on this album, and they are nothing like the original and certainly not as good. I should have read the reviews before I ordered! Record companies should be taken to task for this - at the very least they should make it clear which albums or tracks are not the original recordings.

I bought this album recently and was very disappointed. Diamond has been with 3 different labels through his career and the label that put out this release now also owns the rights to his early work. However, there's a significant gap in the middle where MCA own the rights and so those songs are represented here by some live recordings and, worse, some re-recorded studio tracks (the re-recorded version of Song Sung Blue is particularly bad). If you are looking for a compilation of his biggest UK hits such as Sweet Caroline and Cracklin' Rose then look elsewhere as tracks 7, 15 and 16 are re-recordings and tracks 9-14 and 17-19 are live - something the album sleeve fails to mention.

I did not buy this album off Amazon - curses! If I had, I would have seen the reviews and not bought it. Hence my attempt to find a better ND album and by stumbling across this review page, getting my chance to warn others off this compilation. The live performances are just not up to scratch - Neil's carefully crafted studio voice sounds as if he has just smoked 40 Woodbines in the live versions. I got trapped with this album in my car all the way through France - I am not happy, don't buy it!

What a disappointment this has been. I expected to hear Neil Diamond sing his greatest hits. Instead this is a re-recorded live version. I am sure the fans at the concerts thoroughly enjoyed themselves, unfortunately this has added nothing to the recording, but has in fact detracted from it. Indeed, on some tracks the audience are almost drowning out Neil, and his in-song ad-libbing spoils what promised to be an excellent cd set. To quote Neil "....we've included some live cuts, too. I'd like to thank these audiences for their help with their singing...." In my opinion, you must be about the only one who does. If you want original unspoilt Neil Diamond I suggest you look elsewhere.

Not a favourite as most are live and not the recording I wanted but it was in good condition.
very disappointed with this started to play good at first then it was sticking ended up in the bin
Absolute rubbish - nearly all re-recordings and poor ones at that - there are other better greatest hits recordings available - I bought this one when it first came out in 1992...Read more
