This could be an advantage; you will never leave the batteries in and let them corrode.
Remember you need 250 shots for 10 seconds of video.
I bought this to use for astrophotography. It was deliverd quickly and worked out of the box. There's a comprehensive manual to help you set it up. At first it looks complicated, but in reality it is very easy to use, once you realise that the actual interval between exposures is counted from the start of the exposure, and not it's end. The manual explains all this clearly. With practice I can now set it up from scratch in about 30 sec.
The quality seems reasonable & good value for the price. With care it should last a long time and is far cheaper than Canon's own equivalent remote/timer.
Tip; before going out at night with this, programme before hand when less tired.
One frustrating thing is that it assumes that during sequential shooting you are using Noise Reduction on your camera and so a 80 second exposure is followed by the MINIMUM one second INTERVAL and an additional 80 seconds 'break'.
To overcome this set DSLR from 'continious' to 'single' and it will over-ride enforced intervals.
I also understand this item is hacked by astro-photographer using a lap top to control varied exposure time.
I have used it on a number of occasions, everytime with my Canon E550. I have used it for group pictures, for self potrait shots, for night shots and also, most successfully, for time lapse photography.
One example of using it for time lapse was to record a dinner party. I set the camera up in the corner on a tripod and set the manual exposure (bulb), ISO, aperture and then set the remote to take a picture every 45 seconds. It was very easy to set this up and resulted in a great record of a brilliant night. The accompanying instructions were simple to understand and helped make it a simple process.
The only criticism is that the shortest exposure period is 1 second and it would be great if it could be set to shorter periods.
