If you just want to stand to use occasionally or like me something to fill in until you can afford something better then than Neewer will do the job.
The only other comment I would make is that when opening this be extremely careful of possible staples hiding in the plastic packaging. I did rip my thumb open on one and required some first aid.
No doubt I would have got a better replacement if either sent it back but for me that was not an option because I needed to put it to use immediately.
"Professional" & "Broadcast Studio" are words that are used on this packaging which it certainly is not. It is a good item for the price you pay for it.
I have a Rode NT1-A condenser mic - it's a tight, secure fit with the provided shock mount, and it holds steady with no dropping. I was concerned that the mic would be too heavy but I've had no issue - and the Rode NT1-A is a pretty hefty mic.
All in all very impressed. Sturdy construction, great if you have limited space, and not too steep a price.
The shock mount in this kit is a spring loaded mount that grips the body of a mic. The grip has a thin rubber liner that protects the body of the microphone and provides extra grip.
The scissor arm is a sturdy arm that stays where you want it to as long as you tighten the grips. The cable runs through the arm so if you ever need to replace the cable, you would have to use a standard cable unless you had knowledge of soldering and could feed a new piece of cable through the arm. The spindle at the end of the arm that is provided for the microphone mount is smooth (no splines) and is gripped by two pieces of metal. This proved to be a limitation because although the arm itself can hold a fair amount of weight, the spindle grips themselves support less weight before it loses grip.
Here is my experience:
I have an Audio-Technica AT2020 microphone and noted that in the items "frequently bought together" with the AT2020 was a shock mount mic holder similar to the one in this kit. I soon discovered that not all shock mounts are equal. The opening doesn't go wide enough to fit my AT2020 body and so instead of sending it back, I purchased another shock mount, which is one that screws onto the bottom of the mic. To be fair, the product details do mention that the mount is a standard mount for hand held microphones but I didn't read all of the description.
Once the mic was mounted and it was all attached to the control arm, I can only assume the weight was too much for the control arm mounting spindle and it kept spinning. I tried tightening the grip but it still kept slipping.Read more ›
