I had purchased this many months ago and thought it would be perfect for holding my XLR microphone however this suddenly proved VERY wrong very quickly, after receiving the product i followed the instructions that it came with and it looked very great however after 2-3 months the actual tightening bolt had just threaded and this was without any use on the actual screw only upon installation, Then 1 month after that the whole microphone came crashing to the table and luckily did not damage the microphone as the XLR cable catched it from falling flat onto the wooden table, I had to then somehow wedge the steel rod that the microphone shock filter is attached too into a small gap above where its supposed to go as the actual area where its meant to go had just collapsed as there was no way of putting it back in after it comes out of it and i find that heavily disappointing, So currently the stand is litterally being used as if i had found it in a scrap yard 100% disappointed, and also recently the XLR cable has decided to "tear" inside and now it creates a massive static sound into my mixer if its not positioned very straight and this is just another flaw of the Suspension Arm.Read more ›

The Neewer Professional Recording Microphone Stand. Is as other reviewers pointed out does the job just. The reason I bought this was I needed something in a hurry and I was unable at this stage to outlay for a Røde PSA1 stand. One of the plastic spring retainers was broken and was loose in the box but it managed to hold on to what was left of it. It does secure firmly to the desk and with the microphone shock mount in place there is isolation from the fan noise of the computer.

If you just want to stand to use occasionally or like me something to fill in until you can afford something better then than Neewer will do the job.

The only other comment I would make is that when opening this be extremely careful of possible staples hiding in the plastic packaging. I did rip my thumb open on one and required some first aid.

No doubt I would have got a better replacement if either sent it back but for me that was not an option because I needed to put it to use immediately.

"Professional" & "Broadcast Studio" are words that are used on this packaging which it certainly is not. It is a good item for the price you pay for it.

Great piece of equipment - I live in a small flat with limited space, so this is just perfect. It eliminates the need for a hefty floor stand!
I have a Rode NT1-A condenser mic - it's a tight, secure fit with the provided shock mount, and it holds steady with no dropping. I was concerned that the mic would be too heavy but I've had no issue - and the Rode NT1-A is a pretty hefty mic.

All in all very impressed. Sturdy construction, great if you have limited space, and not too steep a price.

I purchased this because I thought it would be easier and cheaper than buying all separate items.
The shock mount in this kit is a spring loaded mount that grips the body of a mic. The grip has a thin rubber liner that protects the body of the microphone and provides extra grip.
The scissor arm is a sturdy arm that stays where you want it to as long as you tighten the grips. The cable runs through the arm so if you ever need to replace the cable, you would have to use a standard cable unless you had knowledge of soldering and could feed a new piece of cable through the arm. The spindle at the end of the arm that is provided for the microphone mount is smooth (no splines) and is gripped by two pieces of metal. This proved to be a limitation because although the arm itself can hold a fair amount of weight, the spindle grips themselves support less weight before it loses grip.

Here is my experience:
I have an Audio-Technica AT2020 microphone and noted that in the items "frequently bought together" with the AT2020 was a shock mount mic holder similar to the one in this kit. I soon discovered that not all shock mounts are equal. The opening doesn't go wide enough to fit my AT2020 body and so instead of sending it back, I purchased another shock mount, which is one that screws onto the bottom of the mic. To be fair, the product details do mention that the mount is a standard mount for hand held microphones but I didn't read all of the description.

Once the mic was mounted and it was all attached to the control arm, I can only assume the weight was too much for the control arm mounting spindle and it kept spinning. I tried tightening the grip but it still kept slipping.
