After being intrigued by an interesting link concerning a Chromecast paired with a VGA converter that had AUX out in an attempt to connect the Chromecast to any 3.5mm speaker, I decided to investigate. As I am subscribed to Google Music the ability to connect my Chromecast to any 3.5mm speaker made a lot of sense, as I could take advantage of the streaming service without constantly having the TV on. I read reviews on the 'VGA solution' but the seemingly recurring message was that the DAC in the £10 device was very very poor - as music was main concern this seemed a waste of money. As I had a spare FiiO Taishan DAC laying about I decided to look for a device that was capable of separating digital audio from the Chromecasts HDMI and let the dedicated FiiO DAC do the conversion. Having used Neet before and been impressed with the price/performance I decided to go with them once again and am I glad I did!

    Pros:

Easy to setup, literally plug and play

Dedicated switch for allowing maximum compatibility (Position 1 - allows the HDMI source to handshake with the receiver, thus communicating the most compatible audio format, usually 2.0 pcm, which is then split by the Neet device. Position 2 - Manipulates the handshake so that particular audio formats such as 5.1 dolby, dts, etc are forced)

Coaxial, Optical and 3.5mm Aux out!

Comes with an RCA to 3.5mm cable and power supply

HDMI video signal is not affected

Whilst brief and not written in stellar English, the manual provided helps to set things up quite easily

    Cons:

At £33, it is slightly expensive

    Verdict:

I have had this device up and running for a month and it has performed flawlessly. The audio out is superb and has given my Chromecast a new place and use in my house. I would absolutely recommend this product

I bought this to capture hifi audio from Apple TV 4. It is very easy to set up, and works very well. I have an old, very good, TV, and a very, very old, very good, analogue amplifier with speakers. Apple TV makes the TV 'smart' - a cheap upgrade; the Neet extracts the audio to the hi fi, so it can be used with or without the TV. The sound quality - is excellent, as is the picture quality (the HDMI signal travels through the Neet).
Sorry, I can't say how this would work with 'bundle' like BT or Sky: I use FreeSat for live TV, and simply stream what else I want from the internet, so I'm not tied in to any supplier.
I am using the analog audio output (an audio cable is supplied, but it isn't great build quality). I haven't tried the optical output though I have been using a Neet Toslink unit for many years so I am sure that this element of the technology should work fine - it's why I chose the Neet unit this time.
The outputs are: HDMI, co-axial, analog audio, and optical (digital).
I hope this helps if you're thinking of buying one.
The box contained just the unit, power supply and audio cable: no toslink cable, no HDMI cable, and no instructions. Whether this is Neet's policy with cables and instructions or Amazon's (of recycling of unwanted goods), I can't say. I downloaded the instructions and I had the cables I needed anyway.

Works well with a Google Chromecast to provde analogue output via its 3.5mm jack but there is some mains hum. Not enough to be a vast issue when the chromecast is at full volume but would prefer it not to he there. Other audio sources to the same amp do not suffer the same problem.

This review relates to the Neet® - HDMI Audio Converter / Extractor - HD Digital Optical TOSlink / Coaxial / Analogue Stereo - Full HDMI pass through - 3D - ARC.

This unit detrimentaly affects the video signal and cannot be recommended.

    In fairness, I have it at the end at a long hdmi run (10M) but here's what I see;

With the HDMI cable plugged directly from source to TV (Sony Bravia 40"), the picture is perfect.

With the same cable connected to the units input and a short .25M HDMI connecting output to TV, there is red noise introduced to the picture - visible specs of red flicker across the entire picture, especially noticeable on dark, black or grey programme content. It looks like the kind of problem you'd see with a faulty HDMI cable (though I've tried several so it's not a cable fault)

I haven't had a chance to test with shorter cable runs (I expect it would be OK) but whatever image processing it's doing is degrading the (probably already edge case) signal.

It's a pity because the audio extraction works perfectly, just no good for long cable runs.

absolutely hopeless item. waste of money glad i could return it. gave also sorts of problems, main problem was that when i switched on my xbox one it kept giving low resolution 640x480 and would not let it output to 1080p. it looks like it can not handle signal or it is faulty. either ways i would not recommend this product to anyone. stay well away.

I purchased this device to split away audio from my HDMI monitor, due the monitor outputting poor quality audio. I really didn't want to send the monitor back (Asus, excellent quality display!), so went looking for a solution and arrived here. Package arrived quickly (paid extra for a next-day Saturday delivery) with excellent packaging. Product quality is excellent, made of a tough plastic, and tight, good quality connectors.

Was set up in two minutes, and delighted that the audio was spot on. There's also no input lag which was my only worry, so great for anyone playing games! Brilliant little device, solved my problem without upsetting the bank balance too much.
