Kris Needs is an annoying guy - you can't help but read this book and wonder quite why your own life isn't this fantastic. A music obsessive with impeccable taste and an unnerving ability to hang out (ie interview!) what appears to be the right crowds at the right time - you end up feeling jealous you weren't there with him and also wonder how he's still here in one piece. This covers the ups (Mott the Hoople/Clash/early Rap/Primal Scream/Manumission/finding true love) and the downs (heroin and drug abuse in Alphabet City late 80s/poor sales of great music). His enthusiasm and down to earth nature comes through and the last chapter seems like any right thinking guys idea of heaven! Good luck to him - I followed him through Zig Zag and appear to be one of the dozen people who saw him live and bought his Secret Knowledge/Delta Lady stuff. A Top bloke living a thrilling life - this book will make you reassess your opinions of Aylesbury...it appears to be a liggers heaven! I hope his forthcoming work with DAVE the Drummer and his mates gives him some much earned success. The most punk-spirited, headonistic good-time party guy still alive. If, like me, you thought Ibiza was a beer-boys heaven, the last chapter will get you on the plane in seconds! Most amazing fact : Benazir Bhutto travelled to Kris' house early 1970s because he edited the Mott The Hoople fanzine...

Kris Needs has had a cool life. But the book isn't just about his life it also gives an indepth review of how music has merged in the last few decades. From the Stones to hip hop then to Primal Scream. A very funny book and a very funny life. Even if you don't like rock(!) it is still a good read.

This man has lived the life we all want to lead, from being friends with to working and playing with some of todays massive stars such as Bowie, The Clash, Primal Scream, The Prodigy and also many of todays top DJ's. This book was hard to put down once i started to read it. It felt i was living the life of Kris through the book, i could imagine all the ups and downs from being at top gigs and having so much fun to searching the slums of America for the next fix. This is well worth reading. I cant wait to read about the rest of his life (i might have a long wait).
