I have been reading this to my 9 year old daughter, following on from the first book in the series, which was a real hit with her. She really looks forward to bedtime.
Some of the story lines are quite emotionally touching. On a basic level these books are an entertaining read with the general fun and capers of school life, but on a deeper level, there are some great messages in there for little listening ears, about honesty, humility, good friendship and all the other human emotions that are part of growing up. Some of the messages are pretty obviously laid out for an adult reading it, but obviously to the young audience the messages need to be clearly spelled out and it's amazing how well my daughter reacts. Some things are very relevant today and even as an adult I find myself almost heeding the good advice. I can identify well with the messages, such as how feeling good about yourself inside, through good health, self control and self love, can make you work harder and more positively and make you more popular with your piers.
In a society over obsessed with self image, technology and superficial 'social networking', I can think of no better antidote than a good old fashioned book with old fashioned values, and at the very least a cracking good page turner.

I loved the "Naughtiest Girl" books as a child and bought this via the Kindle so I could read it to my son.....he loved it.
This is the second of the three Enid Blyton books although I gather more have been written In an Enid Blyton style. It can be read without having to buy the first book.
The story follows up on the continued adventures of Elizabeth Allen at Whytleafe School and introduces several new characters. Elizabeth continues to grow and develop as a person during her second year in the school while encountering challenges in the form of a classmate who s a bully and another who plays nasty tricks on her.
Being Elizabeth, she doesn't always cope with these challenges very well but her inherent goodness shines through and she ends the book in a very feel good way.
Well worth a read......yes the books are a bit dated these days but the charm of them is still there.

These Enid Blyton books are just wonderful. They are so perfect for a girl, or even a boy aged about 6 upwards who is an early reader. They capture the imagination of a child (adult too) and the words, although simple they are exciting and really bring the characters to life. I can recommend any of these books as an ideal present (I bought two sets of 4 for my two grandaughters aged 6 & 7). They are just the right length, although some maybe a bit short - you just want the stories to go on and on.
As the title suggests 'Naughtiest Girl' doesn't everyone know her? I thought it was my sister that Enid was writing about (She is 60 in January).

My 7 year old adores these books. She has a much higher reading abilty for her age, and these books are very approapriate for her to read alone, should she wish too.
She has enjoyed Malory towers 1-6, which I can also recommend for young readers.

I absolutely love these books, along with the other sets - st Claire's and Malory Towers. I read these as a child on the recommendation of my mum who had also read them and I've bought them all again as an adult.

All children should be encouraged to read Enid Blyton though I would say the school sets are more for girls. Howeverm there are the famous five and secret seven sets which would suit either sex.
