Natures Aid Turmeric extract is a high potency root extract standardised to provide 95 per cent curcumins.
Turmeric spice as a powder only contains 3 per cent curcumin, which is why extracts are necessary to provide a concentrated amount of curcumin - the active component. Natures Aid Turmeric provides a concentrated extract with 95 per cent curcumins. This means that each 400 mg capsule is equivalent to 10,000 mg Turmeric Spice.
The biggest issue with Turmeric is ensuring that it is absorbed from the gut - the important ingredient for this is fat. For this reason, Turmeric should always be taken with a meal.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is a member of the Ginger family which is extensively farmed in India, China and various tropical countries.
Most of us are familiar with Turmeric as one of the principal ingredients of a curry! But Turmeric is also widely used in both Chinese and Indian herbal medicine.
The active ingredient in Turmeric is curcumin, which is responsible for the spice’s yellow colour.
What are Curcumins?
The yellow pigments found in turmeric are known as curcuminoids – one of which is curcumin, the most active component in turmeric.
Turmeric spice as a powder only contains 3% curcumin, which is why concentrated extracts are necessary to provide a therapeutic amount of curcumin. Natures Aid Turmeric provides a concentrated extract with 95% curcumins.
Directions for Use

These capsules provide 95% Curcumins. You get 60 in the bottle and so, using one a day, these should last for two months. They are fairly standard in terms of size, similar to most medicinal capsules. Overall, fairly good value and similar to most other such versions on the market.
Of all the supplements on the market, curcumin has just about the most solid scientific backing. It helps inflamation, protects the brain, and offers wide ranging anti-oxidant benefits.
Turmeric labels are notoriously misleading. I studied the labels of about 20 turmeric products on Amazon and calculated the cost per mg of curcumin. This one works out the cheapest (assuming the claims are honest).
The big problem with turmeric supplements is they have low bioavailability. Piperine (from black pepper) massively increases the bioavailability and nearly all turmeric supplements contain a bit of piperine. Unfortunately this product doesn't. If you are concerned about value for money you could take it with a bit of pepper, otherwise you may be better off buying a different brand.
Finally, don't judge it by how you feel. Most of the benefit is hidden because it just gives you a lower chance of all sorts of nasty things happening.
I've suffered from arthritis since childhood and I've tried most of the supplements there are.
I only discovered turmeric quite recently however. I have been surprised to find that my joints are less hot and angry than before, definitely less painful, and that I am not so stiff. Also, I have lost a bit of weight, which wasn't the reason for taking the capsules but it's a nice side effect, and one that I only discovered afterwards could be due to the turmeric.
I started by taking the capsules daily but then I noticed that I was bruising very easily. My GP told me that, although he's happy for me to take this supplement, turmeric is a natural blood thinner, and that I should reduce the dosage. Now take one every other day. If you are prescribed Warfarin or anything similar I'd definitely consult your doctor first.
I would have liked this supplement to have contained some black pepper, as I understand from what I've read that this assists in absorption. However, I have compromised by taking black pepper with my meals.
Suitable for those with joint problems including people on a vegan diet.
There have been many claims for Turmeric but the main one I wanted to try it for was as an anti-inflammatory.
After 3 weeks of use.
I have now used this bottle up and I can say that my joints did not ache so much. I have a few damaged joints and have been on a journey to find natural products to help. Many of the prescribed anti-inflammatory medicines I have tried cause undesirable side effects.
The effects are very mild but I do notice them so will carry on trying this for a bit longer. Turmeric has many beneficial health benefits apart from its anti inflammatory effects. A quick search on Google produces many fascinating articles.
This does help and seems to come from a reputable manufacturer so I see no reason not to try it. However, it can work out expensive if you need to take it all the time.
