Awesome book. It begins with a history of terrariums and then explodes into facts, figures, and dynamics on how to build and maintain any one of several terrariums types: desert, jungle, forest, swamp, etc. I'm not exactly a beginner terrarist, but this book definitely has high-end stuff in it. I would personally recommend it for both advanced and beginning hobbyists, because certain sections contain more or less detailed or exacting information. The novice gets and easy entry into the hobby, and the expert learns a few things along the way as well. Don't be like me and waste your money on other terrarium texts. Buy this first, and you won't need to blow your cash on anythring else.

This is a subject I know very little about so I found much of the content to be informative and helpful. the section on substrate was especially interesting, I had not considered how planting in a terrarium could be different to growing plants in individual pots. I will certainly return to this as useful reference. Considerable space is devoted to 'recipes' for different environments. While there is a lot to be learnt from this, the lack of good illustrations really limited the value of these for me. My biggest criticism relates to the poor photographs, reading on a Kindle Fire HD I was very disappointed with the size of the images, even when selected for viewing. Also they really weren't very inspiring. Using a Kindle, I had the advantage of being able to look things up online, but this seemed a big missed opportunity. I have seen some wonderful, attractive terrarium photographs on blogs and websites but there was nothing of that quality in this book. The cover photo may well be the best one. I wonder if the illustrations look better in the print book?

An excellent book from an author who obviously has years of hands on experience. No one can be disappointed with it's comprehensive coverage of the subject in a very easy to read style. By far the best I have found to date on the subject.

I found it useful. It contains some important tricks for especially beginners. However, I would expect to see more detailed information about a terrarium setup. Giving some good sample setups would be more concrete and useful. Thanks to the author.
