I was kindly supplied this item free of charge to test and evaluate. In exchange, I agreed to provide an honest review detailing my thoughts. This is said review.

---- WHAT'S IN THE BOX? ----

- SWITCH speaker
- Nylon covered USB to Micro-USB charging cable
- Clearly written, multi-lingual instruction manual
- Quick start guide
- Native Union sticker
- Small poster advertising other Native Union products

There are seven standard colours in which you can have your SWITCH. Six of those come in a soft-touch material, and the other is a high-gloss white. There are also three special colours that come with metals and leather.
Upon opening the packaging, you are greeted by an unforgivingly rectangular-based speaker. I was surprised at how few companies use this bold shape for their speakers, as it is distinctive, and looks great.
The soft-touch material feels lovely to touch and gives it a very premium feel.

The whole point of the SWITCH is that you can use it standing up, or lying down. The face that will be touching the tabletop is covered in a rubberised material to remove any risk of scratching.

If the SWITCH is standing vertically, then there is a circular ring on top that acts as volume control. Filling this ring is a button that is held down to turn the SWITCH either on or off. When you do this, you are greeted by a wonderfully calming noise, that makes me want to turn the speaker off and on again, just so I can hear it!

I tested the Bose Soundlink mini,JBL flip2, UE boom,UE boom mini and my trusty Kitsound boom bar. The switch came out on top with clear sound quality, distortion rejection and better bass replication. The switch just sounds like a quality speaker. I don't understand why it sells for this low price- it sounds way better than all the contenders.

Very clear and articulate sound.
Long battery life...first charge lasted over 15hours
Easy to control (large but sleek volume dial)
Easy to position on any surface. I preface upright for space saving.
Charges your phone or any USB device.
Pairs with all Bluetooth devices like phones(I have it paired to my £20 dumb phone and my Lumia 1320) tablets e.t.c
It's quite loud
Beautiful design.

No mute button for the 'big' welcome sound (not suitable for nighttime low volume use)
Pouch is too tight ( but that's not part of the product so it shouldn't really count)

By Peppers #1 HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 19 May 2014
The Switch Bluetooth Speaker from Native Union looks and sounds special and the numerous awards it has won (iLounge Best of Show Winner, CES 2013, A' Design Award Winner 2013 (Gold) - Italy and Good Design Award 2013 Australia etc.) are testimony to this. The Switch which is also a conference call unit comes in 7 basic colours (White, Aquamarine, Black, Bordeaux, Slate, Emerald, Tangerine) and three premium finishes (Black Copper, Gloss Silver, Rose Gold). All the basic colours are finished in a nice soft touch rubberised material except for the white one which is finished in gloss.

The speaker measures about 20cm high by 7cm on each side - you can use it in either vertical or horizontal orientations - hence the term SWITCH. In the well presented box you get the speaker, a Micro USB charging lead, quick start guide and instruction manual plus 12 month warranty. The speaker features a ring on the top (or end) for volume and you press the area in the centre of it to power it up. A white LED confirms the status of the unit plus behind a discreet panel in "midship" there's a USB output which enables you to charge your phone etc, a Micro USB charging socket for the SWITCH, plus line input and output sockets. Another useful feature is that if you press the lower corner of the device between 1 and 5 LEDs will illuminate to show the battery charge level. The main control of the SWITCH is the distinctive ring which allows you to control volume, pause and play music, answer phone calls reject, mute and last number redial etc. It is a very intuitive control which you soon get used to. The Switch takes about 3 hours to charge and will reward you with around 14 hours of playback time.
