In the avalanche of pie books on the market in these Bake-off crazy times, this short and simple book from 1987, is in my opinion as good as any and better than most. A quarter of the book is dedicated to pastry making and handling, including variations there are 40+ recipes for the pastry alone! Most of all, it is good sound advice, and if the actual recipes concentrate on the traditional and regional, that's much to my preference - as the bane of my life is an overcomplicated pie filling. If you want just one, straightforward pie book ....

This is such a great book. Some tough (challenging) recipes in here, but well worth it. If you are used to making pies from scratch, buy this book. If you want to learn how to make pies from scratch, buy this book and imagine your great-grandma is helping you.
