This is a mix of unique and obscure music that i'm sure will be a listening pleasure to anyone whose not put off by unfamiliar sounds, quick and interesting changes and forien lyrics. You get your moneys worth here, at over 76 minutes long votel clearly had to cram all these records in. After only one listen i can safely say it somehow exeeded my hopes,an overload fat beats, rare grooves and this'n'that and everything else it seems, at one point the samples of people talking over the music got a little tireing but what with votels 'songs in the key of death' and 'music to watch girls cry' being among my personal favourites this is a pleasing follow-up of the two and as a musician, music lover and b-music enthusiast, i think i can get away with saying that this would be slightly more listenable to more people. If you like anything you've ever heard of votels you'll love it and its a good starter for you of you've just heard the name and are curious, it really is very good.

As brilliantly and as seamlessly constructed, as ever. My only criticism is that the selection of psyche-rock, folk, funk, sounds, for the most part, like the songs that he decided not to use for Music to Make the girls cry, and Songs In The Key of Death, more average selections, hasnt the quirky nature of his previous dj mixes, however, it is still an education in itself of music from a less travelled path made over the last 40 years - that is worth the price of the cd in itself, and always worth celebrating.

Uber Mixmaster Mr Votel pulls it off again in this the third installment of his legendary mix albums. Another 75 minutes of obscure cross continental psych, prog, funk, etc. And another 75 minutes of 'guess that tune'. Lovely stuff!

Music to Watch Girls Cry is much better. These songs seem like third choices.

3.0 out of 5 stars More wonderful mayhem by Andy Votel 19 Jun. 2008
By Bill Your 'Free Form FM Print DJ - Published on Amazon.com

This is the third part of a series of mix albums by Andy Votel, a British DJ who specializes in 60s and 70s rock. He did two albums where he mixed funk, folk and prgressive rock, Songs In The Key Of Death and Music to Watch Girls Cry By. They contain extremely obscure material. Both sets are great.

One Nation Under A Grave is also good. But here, Andy focuses on his deep love for ethnic rock of the same era, primarly comming out of Europe and Turkey. This album mixes some great source material, but is not quite as diverse. It lacks just a tiny bit of the excitement of the first two, but these two set the highest of standards.

Taken on its own terms, I give One Nation Under A Grave an endorsement without pause.

I bought this on a whim, knowing nothing about Mr. Votel, in an Austin record shop when it first came out. Re-bought recently due to wear & tear. Not as good as his "Songs in the Key of Death", which deserves 11 stars, but full of totally fresh, seamless, old, bizarre, 30 second cuts of records that only an oil baron could ever afford now thanks to this iconic mix.
