There are some improvements to the fighting mechanics, namely the substitution jutsu (Sort of counter) is now limited to a new 'energy bar' restricting some of the spam that was noticeable on Storm 2, although I do know that this system was introduced in Storm Generations. There's also the ninja move cancel, which brings some new tactics to the fighthing. Finally, , some ninjas can also enter in a special state right from the beggining of the fight, it makes some characters feel way more powerful than others.
The new characters added are great, but there are some that don't make much sense due to the fact that this game follows the ninja war arc in the manga/anime, namely naruto and some of his friends from pre-time-skip. And it seems because of this, some interesting characters that appeared during this part of the manga are missing from the roster.
The story mode manages to catch some of the great moments found in the manga/anime, but sometimes the cut scenes can drag for too long. Overall it is the same as naruto storm 2 free roam mode, but with less stuff to do, which feels like a missed opportunity to explore the ninja world. Also the added "hack and slash" mechanic in the story mode feels underused and had interesting potential.
The online mode suffers alot of lag and framerate drop. It can be fun at times with the tournament mode(up to 8 players) and the usual ranking, however many players seem to use cheap tactics(overpowered characters).
In the end it is another good naruto fighthing game, specially for fans of the anime/manga, although it didn't have the same 'magic' storm 2 had. Honestly after so many titles from the naruto ultimate ninja series, the series is starting to feel stale, and with no new major mechanics/modes(tag-team match, co-op free roam, just some examples), makes this game just an okay game.
disappointments. However the good outweighs the bad by a mile. The things that i like about the game are:
The Fantastic cinematic sequences.
Majority of the old character have been updated in with either new awakening, jutsu, or combos.
New costumes for Most of the character
The tournament mode has been improved with exciting battle conditions
My favorite character from the series included: Edo Madara Uchiha, Edo Nagato, Rinnegan Tobi, and Seven Jinchuriki
I Love the Instant awakening
New ring outs feature are a nice addition! Gives variety to stages as some have it and some don't.
The graphics of this game is pretty AMAZING.
New battle systems i.e. Hack and slash, and others that i don't know it's names.
Old broken characters have been fixed i.e Tenten, Masked man etc...
There are more things that i liked about the game but i can't remember all now. Oh! The sound track of this game is Awesome. Personally I'd give the soundtrack 10/10
What I didn't like about this game are:
No Seven Swordsmen Of The Mist, Kinkaku/Ginkaku, 4 Edo Kage as playable characters (but they are Opponents/Bosses in story mode)
Overall the game is really Good, I'd give 4.5/5 round it up to 5 stars ;)
Although this game was fantastic and is definitely worth the money. If you have played the previous game Ultimate ninja storm 2, you may feel a little let down. This is because apart from the story. This is definitely a cut and paste job even though there was a 3 year gap between the games. This is because none of the characters have been given new combos or really no changes at all apart from an extra skin for the war. Also only about 10 new characters have been added with 8 of the tailed beasts covering most of the additions (although they are very enjoyable). Also the single player campaign will feel identical to the previous.
However this is not making the game bad in any , it is a fantastic game. I just felt more could of been done with the game in a 3 year gap.
It brings a lot of content and excitement.
BUY IT if you definitely know the story line and what is happening in the manga and anime overall, otherwise it would be too confusing.
Of course, even though it is newbie friendly, you will take sometime studying the system in battles.
For me it is a very enjoyable and a game worth recommending.
