Format: Paperback
This is the best yet easily accessed book in English about this famous regiment. Of course the limit of space in the Men-At-Arms books also limits the possibility of entering deeper in to the subject. Still, the author Ronald Pawly makes a very good effort in trying to cover all essential info about the regiment. An extra hats off to the author for the (almost) correct spelling of Polish names and surnames, which is no walk in the park for a non-Pole ;-)

Very sadly enough the effort of the illustrator Patrice Courcelle does not match the effort of the author. Hastily done, lacking good detail and a bit shabby, the illustrations seems to have been made under considerable time-pressure. This becomes painfully obvious when compared to Pawly's and Courcelle's previous work on the Polish lancer's sister regiment `The red Lancers' (MAA 389) where Courcelle's work is brilliant.

I'm still waiting for THE book on this regiment, the apple of the Emperor's eye, but nonetheless still consider this publication a nice effort.

HASH(0x9ee83f0c) out of 5 stars OK Effort 2 Oct. 2007
By danny boy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I am usually a fan of the team of Pawley and Courcelle as they jointly produce the more interesting Osprey Napoleonic titles. Generally, the text by Pawley is interesting and readable but it is really the illustrations by Courcelle which interest me. His drawings are similar to the style of Lelipvre and the Funckens.
This particular volume surprisingly contains only serviceable drawings of the Polish Lancers which does not reflect the grandeur of the uniforms worn by this elite unit. This effort pales in comparison to other superlative efforts by the same team.

HASH(0xa1801af8) out of 5 stars Light Cavalry, More Like Light Reading 6 May 2013
By james pauta - Published on Amazon.com

Aside from wondering what the uniforms and and troopers looked like in this unit, the pamphlet provides a general history of the unit with some anecdotes, plenty of names, and decent illustrations with a basic idea on the history. If you are looking for a more in-depth look and understanding of the history I would not recommend this--you'll be left with wanting to more. "There has to be more information out there on this, dare i say, legendary unit." For a much more serious read, i'd continue looking elsewhere.
