About the Author

MICHAEL BROERS is Professor of Western European History at Oxford University, UK. His The Napoleonic Empire in Italy, 1796-1814. Cultural Imperialism in a European Context? (2005) won the Prix Napoléon of the Fondation Napoléon. He was a Visiting Member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, USA, and is now a Major Leverhulme Research Fellow.
PETER HICKS is an Historian and International Affairs Manager, Fondation Napoléon, Paris/Visiting Professor at the University of Bath, UK. His book Clisson et Eugénie (Fayard 2007) won the 'Premio Luciano Bonaparte, Principe di Canino' awarded by the Town of Canino, Italy. His publications include: 'Napoleon on Elba – an exile of consent', in Philip Mansel and Torsten Riotte (eds) Monarchy and Exile (2011); 'Late 18th-century and very early 19th-century British writings on Napoleon: myth and history', Napoleonica. La Revue (2010); 'Joseph Bonaparte et la 'Réunion de famille' de 1832-1833', in Amaury Lefebure (ed.) Catalogue de l'exposition au Musée national des châteaux de Malmaison, 19 octobre 2010 - 10 janvier 2011, Charlotte Bonaparte 1802-1839: une princesse artiste (2010).
AGUSTÍN GUIMERÁ is a Researcher at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas in Madrid, Spain. He is co-editor of the following publications: Trafalgar y el mundo atlántico (2004); El equilibrio de los imperios. De Utrecht a Trafalgar (2005); Guerra naval en la Revolución y el Imperio. Bloqueos y operaciones anfibias (2008).
