Review

A coming of age story as a young Polish girl evolves to a fIerce underground resistance fighter in World War II Poland. This story provides a unique and accurate window to a history chronicling the Nazi occupation and the Russian invasion. Nadia is an unforgettable, credible, compelling character. Jeff Boyle, author of NAM WORLD Have you ever wondered what it's like to grow up in Warsaw during WWII? For Nadia, whom you will come to love, it is both much like it is for any adolescent girl but also utterly different. It is the testing that can make a heroine of a girl with the heart and courage to act. Dr. Sandra Smith Hutchins Professor Emerita of English Belmont University Nashville, TN. Lois Gerber's novel, Nadia, is a sensitive and heartwarming story of love, friendship, and courage set in Poland. The novel begins just before the Nazi occupation and centers on Nadia and her family and friends. This Holocaust story is unique as it's told from the perspective of a Catholic girl. It shows readers how the Nazi occupation both devastated Jews and caused extreme hardships on the entire population. Nadia is a survivor, and despite losing almost everything, even her Jewish lover, is willing to start over again by emigrating to America. James M. Doumas Professor of Legal Studies Shanghai Maritime University Shanghai, China
