The IU01 addresses an issue common to most gaming PCs that is a lack of substantial power and expandability from the front-panel USBs. The IU01 enhances control and boosts power for front-panel USB devices by connecting them directly to the power supply as opposed to the motherboard, ensuring that there is always enough power to control your accessories and peripherals. The IU01 also adds six internal USB ports that are great for powering items that you don't need constant access too like a Bluetooth module or USB wireless router allowing you to free up the external ports for additional accessories.

My only criticism is that it provides 2 "external" style connectors - I would much prefer it to have come with a total of 5 "internal" USB headers (after all, it is an internal card and DOES NOT use a PCI slot - so to unplug the USB devices, you need to open your case).
This card was easy to install using the provided velcro tabs, I have attached mine to the side of the hard drive cage in my Fractal Design case so it is easy to access once the case is open.
The expansion card comes with a 9-pin USB header cable to connect to one of the motherboard USB headers, this then connects to the bottom 9-pin connector on the card. It also comes with a 4 pin power (pass-through) connector so any items connected have sufficient power.
This has worked without any issues, all the items connected are visible and work without any additional kexts or drivers required. I have not used the two 'external' A type USB ports but would expect these to work just as well.
I would definitely recommend this card for anyone looking for an easy way to expand the number of internal USB headers in their PC of Hack.
The NZXT internal expansion unit gave me an easy upgrade option for way less money. It comes with enough cable slack and connectivity to allow positioning it almost anywhere in my case (Mid Tower). The additional sleeved dongle ports also come in handy for low bandwidth usb kit like the wireless keyboard and mouse, freeing up another two external ports. I was concerned that being inside a mostly metal case would affect the connectivity, so I housed it in the now redundant 3.5 inch bay at the top of the case and so far, so good.
The only mildly negative comment is that the only power cable supplied uses the very old power Molex connector rather than a much more common SATA style one. That forced me to add another modular cable to my PSU which, in my case (pun intended), given its space restrictions proved to be a bit of a task.
Over all, great value for money, looking forward to them producing a combo USB 2.0/3.0 version :-)
There are so many things you can do with this for example if you don't want to take up a PCI-E lane with a wifi-or bluetooth adapter or have them hanging out the back on a usb port you can have them plugged inside your case and out of sight. You could also probably find some USB lights and plug them in and have software to control them but I don't know of anyone that makes something like this.
I don't think the product description on Amazons is very clear, it says: • 6 Internal USB expansion and •2 External USB expansion.
Yes it has a total of 6 USB connections however 1 of these USB connections is required to connect this to the motherboard, 3 are Internal USB2 headers (the same as the USB2 headers on motherboards and the remaining 2 are External USB ports.
I've given it a 4 star instead of a 5 for the following reason:
The power cable (molex connector) is very short (about 4" long). I think this restricts the physical location where this product can be installed within a computer case. If you want to install this product near the power supply unit then power cable length doesn't present a problem. However if you want to install this product far away from the power supply unit then you may need a molex extension cable.
I would also like to see a version of this product that has 5 Internal USB expansion (USB2 Headers) i.e. get rid of the 2 External USB connections in favour of 2 USB2 Headers.
The product comes with a strip of Velcro to allow it to be attached to the inside of the case or power supply unit.
