"It can be invaluable to students, professors, pastors, and laypersons...A blurb on the back cover aptly and humorously says, 'Its open margins are perfect for your open mind.' Wisely said!"--Journal of the International Society of Bible Collectors

I have a wide margin Swedish Bible. But that edition has lots of technical pages, concordance, dictionary stuff etc after the New Testament, and also softer bindings, so it rests easily opened in Romans, on a table.
If it is a notetakers Bible, hardware issues are important. It should be easy to work with. Ideally I would lika a NRSV wide margin New Testament edition. With soft bindings. Please!

The text block is sharp, and although the text is small, it is very readable due to the high contrast between the black text and white pages. The pages themselves are high-quality and lend themselves well to writing notes. I also appreciate the smaller size of the lines in the margin. They allow one to keep the notes aligned with the particular passage/word/sentence one is commenting on.
Again, I cannot comment enough of how beautifully sharp the text is. The paragraph format makes for easy reading. This is NOT a preaching Bible, as the verse numbers are very small. But that makes it even more enjoyable for early morning reading sessions, with ample room in the margins for the epiphany of the day or recorded prayers.
The reason for a 4 star rating is because of the cloth used for the cover. It is a sparkly blue that is a crinkled, so reminds me of something my grandmother would appreciate. I plan to get the Bible rebound soon to something much more masculine, such as leather-covered boards. However, the cover seems very durable, and with sewn pages this volume will last a lifetime and longer.
Update (1/5/2013): The spine of this bible does not hold up well. This is unfortunate as it is a product killer for me. I need a bible that can hold up. I have not dropped it, it just does not hold up to my daily opening and closing.
It's a single column of text, which means your notes on the side of the page don't have to guess where they are pointing to. The pages are thin, but not as thin as an ESV note takers Bible I had years ago. I use the Micron 01 pens (http://www.amazon.com/Sakura-30063-6-Piece-Micron-Assorted/dp/B001CRIGZQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1355334173&sr=8-4&keywords=micron+6+pens) and there is very little bleed through the pages (and they're worth the purchase, highlighting and taking notes in books is much nicer with them in general).
The cloth cover is nice. I see it's gone up in price from when I bought it. I figure it was worth $5 more than the hardcover, but I don't know about much more than that. It's basically the same as the hardcover, just cloth on the outside of the cardboard, instead of paper. The pages open nicely. I was working in a class on Genesis, and the first chapters of such a big book were awkward, but I don't know that you can ever get around that.
Why not a 5 star review? Two reasons. First it's a big Bible, which I like, as it leaves room for the notes. The ESV I mentioned before was actually too small for any meaningful thought. But I'm a student who puts his books in a panier and bikes a couple of miles. My books take some abuse, and after a semester it's already starting to show a bit of wear. It should be ok, but I've had to be more careful with it. It wouldn't be a problem for sitting by a chair or desk and carrying to church/bible studies.
The second reason it's not a 5 star is that you can only get it with the apocrypha. I'm not going to use them much, if ever, and they add to the size which adds to the difficulty of holding together.
Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. It's great to open it up and see what you've already worked through, and see the new ways God speaks when you end up rereading a passage later.
