I think that this is one of my favourite bible's as it is perfect for studying, it breaks down scripture and annotates and explains scripture in detail. I definitely recommend this bible.

Judging by the many reviews that I have read on this translation of the Holy Bible, it is clear that the vast majority who say that it is a faithful translation close to the Hebrew and Greek, are those who do not really know what they are talking about, but simply giving their unlearned opinion. I have this version and others, but will not use this for study of the Bible, as I would not the NIV. These are really not translations that should be used by any church as their main Bible, as they are very free in many places of giving readings that depart from what the original languages actually say, which are really paraphrases, or what the translator thinks it should read, rather than what it does say. For anyone who wants to do serious Bible study, the good old King James and New King James versions are from far more reliable manuscripts and other textual sources. The greater majority of new versions are based on a text that is very inferior and by men, like the late Bruce Metzger, had a very low esteem of the Bible as The Word of God. Dr Metzger was the main editor for the United Bible Society for many years, and his judgement on many textual reading were very wrong. Sadly people want "easier" to read versions, and there is no shortage of these in recent times. But it is also a sad fact, that modern scholarship is far "light-weight" than what the Church had in the Likes of Burgon, Scrivener, Allis, R D Wilson, E J Young, Orr, Warfield, Machen, etc, men who had a high regard for the Holy Bible, and firmly belived in its Inerrancy, Infallibility and Absolute Authority, which Metzger and his editor's do not.

HASH(0x9859f06c) out of 5 stars Great idea and resource 3 Sept. 2011

I really like the NLT, it is faithful to the meaning of the original languages and is not written in "Churchease or Christianease". Also the Life Application Study notes help people to go beyond just being hearers of the Word and helps them to become doers as the Holy Spirit directs. The NLT Study notes help to explain cultural, historic, and ethnic information for a more complete understanding. The three of these combined is wonderful. Traditional study notes, application study notes and a good translation all combined in one, great idea. I also like that the Scripture at the top half of the page is in single column paragraph format like the Life Application Study Bible and the notes are on the bottom half of the page are dual column. The print may be a little small for some but is perfect for me. This has become my devotional Bible and Study Bible. I am not one to write notes in a Bible (wish I could get in that habit) so the pages are fine for me, for note writers the margins are small. I really like this edition a lot.

HASH(0x985a6d08) out of 5 stars a little disappointed 6 Aug. 2011
By Andrew Goad - Published on Amazon.com
I just got this at the local Christian bookstore today. I was a little disappointed they did not place somewhere on the packaging that they leave out notes, but maybe I am being too picky. I would have preferred to have been better informed about this before I made my purchase though because I already have both in paperback and leather-like. They are both good study Bibles and an excellent addition to anyone's library and I thought this would save time in my studies to have them both together, but now I wonder how many notes are left out though. I have only looked at Mark 10 so far.

HASH(0x985a6edc) out of 5 stars Great idea! 26 July 2011
By R. Robinson - Published on Amazon.com
I bought the imitation leather of this Bible today but wish that 8 would have bought the hard cover. The Bible concept is great. It has eliminated me having to have both my life application & study Bible on my table. It allows me to take the great notes of both study Bibles everywhere in one book! I did like the hard cover it looked and felt very solid. I got the imitation leather because I liked the look but now that I am using it I think the cover feels to flimsy for me. I like a bible that holds itself more firm when held in my hand open and reading it. A genuine leather in this would be perfect. I hope they will offer this in the NIV & NASB later. Awesome Bible. You can't go wrong with the hardcover for the price.

HASH(0x985a6c18) out of 5 stars The NLT Parallel Study Bible Offers The Best Of Both Study Bible Worlds 24 Dec. 2011
By Harold Cameron - Published on Amazon.com
Well Tyndale House Publishers finally went and did it...they have published the FIRST PARALLEL STUDY BIBLE and I am blessed and impressed by it.

With the New Living Translation as the Bible text, the NLT Parallel Study Bible uses parallel study notes from the NLT Study Bible as well as The Life Application Study Bible to assist the reader in gaining an understanding of the text and then learning ways to apply the text in our every day lives.

The NLT Study Bible notes provides the reader with details and explanations concerning Biblical words or texts that the reader might need an explanation for.

The Life Application Study Bible Notes then enables the reader to gain insights as to how to apply what they are reading in their lives.

This new parallel study Bible offers the best of both study Bible worlds and is a must have for any
"pastors, Bible teachers" and serious students of the Word of God.

I have received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher, Tyndale House Publishers, for reviewing it.

HASH(0x985b3f84) out of 5 stars At 66YO this is the first time I could understand most of the bible 18 Oct. 2013

I have read the bible thru 2 or 3 times, & it was almost impossible to follow for me. This version, including the easy to read summary information at the beginning of the New Testament & the Life Application notes really made it come alive for me. I read much every morning in a "quiet time" before starting my hectic day. I immediately ordered 9 more copies for friends & family. This version of the bible is largely responsible for me rededicating my life to the Lord & starting to live as God wants me to for the first time, even though I have always felt I was a Christian.

The summary at the beginning of the New Testament really smacked me right between the eyes many times on just exactly how I have been fooling myself all of my life on what is okay & what isn't.

This version of the bible could very well help to save your soul if you let it. Please do this for yourself & get your hands on one of these.
