2.0 out of 5 stars Easy reading but nothing too insightful 11 Dec. 2012

The ad, and title, does not lie: "Kickin...Pricks" IS an armchair guide which makes for easy, pleasant browsing, reading and thumbing thru. However, it doesn't give much insight into Cave's lyrics or musical knowledge for the reader. Compare "Revolution In The Head" or "Songwriting Secrets of the Beatles" and you'll see what I mean. I hopefully thought "Kicking....Pricks" would be, at least, as informative as Peter Doggett's "The Man Who Sold The World" (each Bowie 70s song is described, the backdrop of inspiration, etc.) But "Kicking...Pricks" is more like an easy magazine read with no musical knowledge.
You're better off getting "King Ink" I and II; or "Sinner Saint: The True Confessions" (Matt Snow) or "Bad Seed"(Ian Johnston); and read Cave's 2 novels. The books I've listed will give you much more insight into Nick Cave's music, lyrics and life than "Kicking...Pricks".
