In the 16th Century Martin Luther's translation of the Bible was charged with being "full of falsifications" and "heretical errors." In May 1530 copies of William Tyndale's translation were burnt on the orders of the Bishop of London. The first English translation direct from Hebrew and Greek was consigned to the flames, as was Tyndale himself not long after!
Today, these works and many like them are considered landmark translations! It is my confidence that one day the New World Translation will be viewed likewise.
But,why so much opposition to it (as can be seen from the previous reviews) from people outside of the Jehovah's Witnesses? Well we could ask, why was there so much opposition to men like Tyndale?
One of the basic problems was the increased accuracy of Tyndale's translation over the latin vulgate, using words like love rather than charity, congregation rather than church, elder rather than priest and repent rather than do penance. These were viewed as robbing the clergy of some of their power and more importantly of money. They were, nevertheless, more accurate!
Now if we had picked up Tyndale's translation back then certain verses would have sounded different to what we had been taught, not because of any doctrinal bias on Tyndales part, but because of his translation's greater accuracy. Similarly, some verses in the New World Translation may sound different to some popular translations, but this is not a result of bias, but a result of it's greater accuracy. It is more accurate in translating parousia as presence rather than coming. It is more accurate in translating stauros as stake rather than cross.

An excellent and stimulating translation with much subtle insight at times. What a pity this is not printed bigger, on thicker paper and with a proper hard cover. Bibles need to be durable. The 2013 version should also be at hand. Both together are very good. There are, of course, other good modern translations. One needs several study bibles to combat bias. The older versions are of historical interest only.

This bible is no longer used by Jehovah's witnesses. We use the new revised 2013 version. It is written using modern language that is a direct translation of both the Hebrew and the Christian Greek scriptures. You can get one of These bibles without cost. All you need to do is visit jw.org website and look for the publications tab and download a free copy. For hard copy you could visit your local Kingdom Hall, or just ask for one from one of Jehovah's witnesses the next time they knock your door

Just wondered if all the people who wrote the negative comments have actually read the Greek Interlinear. 'The New World Translation' is an accurate copy of the language the scriptures were orininally written in. This Bible is not a translation of a translation as is the King James and many other versions, but it is taken from the earliest manuscripts available.
