This unit solved a big problem for us: We have two buildings, separated by more than 100ft of Cat5e cable. The occasional connection was unreliable to the point of being useless. The ducting was full and had awkward bends, so we were told adding a fiber optic cable was out. The IT vendor wanted us to spend thousands on a wireless link. There is a manhole about half way along the cable, to which we have access. We purchased this unit and with a PoE injector (chose Ubiquiti Networks PoE Adapter, 48v Ubiquiti Networks POE-48-24W - PoE Injector 48V-24Was I had one to hand) and a plastic water-tight housing. The GS108T was placed in the housing (see photo) and the cable cut and crimped in the manhole The PoE Adapter was connected in the main building and that cable placed in Port 1 (with the yellow marking). Problem solved - reliable, fast connection between the two building now running for over a month! Highly recommended.

    Great little unit, extremely low price, tons of features and really robust. It's got a good weight and quality, professional feeling all-metal chassis rather than cheap nasty plastic. Highly recommended for the price and dead easy to set up. It works straight out of the box if you dont want to fiddle about with configuration or you're not the geeky type (unlike me). It's robust enough that it'll go just about anywhere - Mine's under the tv but it'll go in the garage, cupboard, hang on a wall or sit on a shelf quite happily. It also comes with little sticky rubbery feet that you can add if it's shelf-mounted to stop it sliding about. Performance is impressive as it's using proper ASIC switching technology and not firing traffic out on all ports and waiting for the designated destination host to pick up the signal (sorry - a bit techy). The PoE acceptance port means I can power it from my Meraki switch so I didn't need to use the power adaptor included either - A Cisco version of this device with as many features would cost upwards of £700 and then you'd need a qualified CCNA engineer to configure it. I'm Really impressed with it but slightly sad (and just a bit gloaty) that I got mine on Amazon Prime for £34.99 and it's now selling for around the £40-£50 mark but still highly recommended. I think this unit will last a long, long time...

    Great product and excellent value for money. The switch works very well and it is totally silent (finless). It is well built, solid and cleanly presented. Excellent factory packaging which protects the switch for transportation.
    The weakest link is the software platform. It has several things, that knowing Netgear's traditional attention to details, I would expect them to address soon: 1-It only works with Internet Explorer as it requires to have installed Java add-on which are not longer supported neither by Edge nor Google which are todays browsers most used under Windows 10. 2- The Smart Control Center Manager software adds little value as it only provides support for discovery, maintenance and task managing but for managing the switch it invokes the IE to access the web manager tools in the switch (so point 1 still applies for this as well). So in essence the only managing tool which is usable is the web based tool imbedded in the switch. 3- On top The Smart Control Center Manager requires to have Adobe to run the product. 4- I have not seen a way to manage the switch via
    CLI so I do not know whether it is supported or not.
    All the above software details are well outbalanced by the performance and great value for money of the product. All in all, a Good Choice!!!

    The GS724T-400EUS has been a great addition to my home network. I'm in the progress of cabling up the house with CAT6 for a fully wired network and this switch has allowed for easy and central distribution. I particularly wanted a managed switch to take advantage of Link Aggregation, creating a 4 port aggregated interface (LACP) between the switch and my file server (NAS4Free) which was straightforward to setup and works a treat. This allows for additional available bandwidth between the NAS and multiple simultaneously active clients on the network transferring large video and RAW image files to and from the NAS during editing workflows. The switch has a host of other managed features which I haven't looked into yet and are probably beyond the scope of my network. I have found the web management interface to be a little irritating on occasion but overall cant complain. Great, affordable 24 port managed switch

    I'll be honest.

    When I first got these, I didn't love them at all. I played with them, then ripped them out and replaced them with my older, unmanaged versions.

    I wanted managed switches so that I could put in VLANs to separate my IP telephony devices from my TVs from my computers from my wife's work computers and so on.

    Not knowing much about VLANs didn't help, and the documentation is not necessarily the best, but in the end these have proven to be very good.

    I have them working with a Linksys managed switch, various Draytek APs and firewall/routers, and with each other. It all hangs together flawlessly now, and everything is segmented beautifully.

    These make perfect SOHO devices for segmenting networks. If you don't need that level of segmentation - and to be honest, most homes won't - then stick with their unmanaged cousins. But if you do want to segment your TVs/Sky box/media players/IoT devices from your main computers, then these are a perfectly sensible option in a wired network.

    Bought to replace earlier model of the same item, which had failed after a power cut.

    This worked straight out of the box, and without any additional setting up.

    The previous model had lasted over eight years, possibly more. Hoping to get similar use from this version too.

    Only con, has been inability to upgrade the firmware to the latest version, so far. Although after researching online, this appears to be a general issue with the netgear software, rather than this hardware item.

    This has not stopped the switch working flawlessly since installing.
