My setup is as follows; super slow broadband from BT, Qnap NAS, Humax DVR, various hard wired Macs all connected via a gigabit switch and transmitted through Apple Airport Extreme 7th gen.
The broadband is slow as I'm so far from the FTTC so I don't get more than 8mb even though I'm paying for 40/10 or whatever it is.
I also have a sim from EE which gives 100gb per month for 2 months. This is on a rooted Samsung S4 using FoxFi. I can get a faster internet speed from this. I wanted something that would allow me to basically use the EE mobile data and also connect to my NAS, DVR etc.
I bought this on a whim as I couldn't find out whether this would extend a mobile hotspot. Well it does. It connects to the Samsung @ 2.4ghz, but transmits its network out at 2.4ghz & 5ghz. This is really handy for accessing files on my NAS, as I connected it to the gigabit switch via ethernet.
I've now bought a 3g/4g aerial to stick on my roof which will attach to the antenna port in the back of the S4, so I should get even faster speeds in the future. I can then save £75 per month I'm paying to BT!
There was a very good review for the 'extender'.
Possibly part of the problem is that I am trying to use the extender in an area where I already have a fairly strong signal. The reason why I wanted an extender is that I wanted to be able to use an ethernet cable from the extender to my TV and Humax box.
So I am trying to use it in an area where there is 'signal overlap'.
I have finally got the extender to work on my smart phone. Wow! What an effort!

Chapter 2 Getting started
I had to use my smart phone because I cannot choose which wifi signal to use with my desktop computer.
I have tried to connect my Sony Bravia television which is a few years old (5). Although it recognised the ethernet cable network connection, when I tried to connect to any services like iplayer it said that there was 'no network'.
Thinking seriously of rejecting this Extender as 'not fit for purpose'.
Although it works on my smart phone, that is not what I bought it for. I could get a good signal before on my smart phone.
I will try now with the ethernet cable plugged into my Humax Free Sat box. For some reason, I have not been able to get Free Sat through a satelite dish. I won't go into details.Read more ›
Set up as an access point blasting wifi throughout the house and garden. Even makes it through our thick solid brick walls.
The setup is extremely easy even for someone wit zero knowledge, simply turn it on connect to it via wifi or ethernet cable and open a browser to follow instructions.
Since I first got it the light for 5ghz has never lit up even though now and again I have managed to join the 5gz channel. This isn't a faulty one: I returned the first and none of the two to follow it lit up.
Once it's working (and havi reset it plenty of times too before that stage) I turn it off at the wall (don't want wifi beaming in my brains all night while I'm sleeping, or to waste electricity) it doesn't work again. So I have to set it all up again.
Right now I'm in tears. I didn't have that kind of money to waste and yet again I'm trying to get it to work and I know it'll take hours. I'm not an idiot with tech by the way. This thing really is USELESS.
