I have only ever used Netgear. When my N300 router was starting to become unreliable, I looked for a replacement that offered both 2.4 and 5mhz. I settled on this one because it was in my budget and didn't look like a bulky space-craft that many router modems do these days. Set up was easy enough for me even though I only really know the basics. The Genie would not work so I had to input settings manually, and luckily I had thought to take screen shots of the old set up to guide me.
Router looks ok, fairly sleek. Don't like the glowing Netgear logo at night. You can turn all the LEDs off though if you choose.
My main complaint is the speed. I was expecting slightly higher results with a newer, higher spec unit, but the speeds I get are almost 2mbps slower than normal. I was getting 7-8 on the older N300, which I know is slow but is all I really need. With the new one I am lucky to get 6mbps. I realise things need to settle and speeds may increase, but it has been over a week and nothing. Also I have noticed no improvement by having some devices on 5mhz.
Tried Netgear support and that was a waste of time. They just asked me to reboot, then take back to factory settings and then call a number in the US which I was not going to do. I would have expected them to call me to be honest. It looks like this unit will be returned. Not sure it is faulty but I don't want slower speeds than I had before.
