Having used many routers, mostly Netgear, last one being DGND4000 I would say wired connections and the brilliant Readyshare on this are very strong, best I have thus far used.I don't think the wireless side of things is so strong however. The distance both the 2.4ghz and ac travel appear a little weak, also the ac speeds don't seem that mind blowing.Infact if I didn't know I had my Samsung Tab on the ac band I am sure I would have noticed no difference between it and n 5ghz.At a distance of 17 feet, round a corner,up a flight of stairs, stone walls and two oak doors this is down to 11 to 18 Mbps on my laptop, just enough to watch 720p YouTube, not that great and ac isn't even available, even though I have tried using my Netgear ac dongle. However 9 wireless devices and 10 wired all running simultaneously with no slowdowns is impressive. So bandwidth management is excellent as is QoS.Certainly gaming(Call of Duty) and streaming Amazon Instant have proved very strong, even when 2 TVs are streaming and another is gaming all has remained completely lag and buffer free.
For me it's difficult to find a modem router with ac other than this one or the D6300,which for a small ac speed boost is £50 more(not worth it). There aren't many option if you want a built in modem.Netgear give free openDNS integration to protect children, this gives the best I have seen in site blocking.
So 4 stars for looking nice and smart, running cool, handling multiple intensive tasks easily, rock like adsl2+ modem and excellent blocking/safety controls.Loses a star for long distance 2.4ghz wireless strength.Overall though for less than £100 it's a top quality piece of equipment and definitely worth buying.
The D6200 is a strange slab shape and has to stand up on its end. It is slightly minimal in that the lights on the front don't tell you which ports you have connected. I've had lots of Netgear kit before, so I had it up and running with all my usual tweaks in no time at all. The web front end is pretty functional, but the Netgear Genie app on iOS/Android devices is less so. Like other reviewers of recent Netgear kit I can confirm that the WiFi range isn't particularly good. In fact I did have quite a few problems connecting my AirPort Express for AirPlay use, and even when it did work it cut out quite a bit.
And on the subject of WiFi this is where it all goes wrong. In short just like the two DGND4000 that I had briefly the D6200 suffers from a problem where after a short time if no wired devices are connected, no WiFi devices can connect. They can see the SSID fine, but that's it. So I logged a call with Netgear Support. Their first response was to check if I had set the Connection mode to be "Always On" (which it was), follwed by an offer to return it for a swap under warranty.
Having being down this route before with the DGND4000 I declined the swap and asked if I could get it escalated to the next line of support. I then was contacted by an engineer who tested my config and said he'd found a firmware bug. Though my hopes for a resolution were dashed when he advised me to downgrade the firmware, but given I was already on the lowest firmware for the UK model then I couldn't do that. He then suggested that as this was an "isolated case" that I should return the router for a replacement, despite the fact that he'd just told me he'd found a firmware bug (and any replacement router would have the same buggy firmware)!
Needless to say I returned the D6200 for a refund rather quickly, telling Netgear my days of buying their kit was at an end. I now have a Linksys X3500 which has no problems with WiFi and had significantly better WiFi Range.
