4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for research, just have a magnifying glass handy. 8 Oct. 2012

I absolutely love this little series. I'm a painter who focuses on mythology and history. Since it's so overdone, I don't necessarily like to do the same old Greek, Roman, and Norse. So having a quick reference where I can get some ideas from other areas of the world is a fantastic tool to have. It's still pretty vague, but what I can do is get some inspiration on a certain topic, then go do some research to get the specifics. This and Giants, Monsters, and Dragons: An Encyclopedia of Folklore, Legend, and Myth are great for my work! The only problem that I have with this book and the reason that I took 1 star off is that the writing is TINY! Every eye doctor I've ever been too has told me that I have superior eyesight and still I had the worst time reading this. What is it? 6 point font? If they just made it a bit bigger (or maybe if they came out with a Kindle version, I would have been 100% satisfied with these books.

I am someone who loves Mythology and I recently got this to learn more about deities from different cultures. It is defiantly worth the read if you are into that sort of thing. The books come in a nice hard slipcase and the illustrations and pictures inside are nicely done.

Very helpful on my research. I only suggest for people that are hard core into mythology to read this.

I got everything I wanted from these books, it was a shame the case was torn along a bottom ridge but the books were satisfactory.
