About the Author
Alfred Rosenberg (12 January 1893 – 16 October 1946) was an early and intellectually influential member of the Nazi Party. Rosenberg was first introduced to Adolf Hitler by Dietrich Eckart; he later held several important posts in the Nazi government. He is considered one of the main authors of key Nazi ideological creeds, including its racial theory, persecution of the Jews, Lebensraum, abrogation of the Treaty of Versailles, and opposition to "degenerate" modern art. He is also known for his rejection of Christianity, having played an important role in the development of Positive Christianity, which he intended to be transitional to a new Nazi faith. At Nuremberg he was tried, sentenced to death and executed by hanging as a war criminal.

On the face of it, it seems amazing that this book has been so long out of print in both German and English; on the other hand, neither English nor German National Socialists own the major publishing houses, bookshop chains etc.
Compare this to Houston Stewart Chamberlain's Foundations of the Twentieth Century. Presidents, prime ministers, respected broadsheets all raved about the Foundations. The translators really produced a testament to German-English relations with that one. Just before the First World War, the First Word War was inconceivable!
Anyway, in the Myth, the main word isn't Aryan but 'Nordic'.
Chamberlain, like Rosenberg, never uses Aryan or even Nordic. Instead, his fascination is with the 'Teutons'. Rosenberg never uses 'Teuton'.
Are you confused yet?
I think a modern reader will feel bewildered by all the pseudo-race categories. The Nazi's where serious about all those categories.
The Nazi's believed that you can have a slav human being, a celt human being, a teuton human being etc..
This mentality has vanished today.
One interesting observation of Alfred Rosenberg is his suggestion that only on the Nordic race has the umph to enact change.
Rosenberg writes that the Ancient Romans and the Ancient Greeks were Nordic. The ancients do seem impressive.
Look at the Greeks today! Pathetic. The English and the French are also pathetic! As for the Germans? "Goethe, look away"!
After the crash of 2008, we saw the peoples of the free world scurrying under the loving arms of their elected parliamentarians, for shelter from pigs on the wing, knowing full well what remorseless rape was to greet them, and their grandchildren, still they accepted it up the backside because they voted for their Gods and their Gods care for those yet to be born. They really do!Read more ›
that the author was up for genocide at that point, but putting it down I felt it was less
than surprising that he was ready to go along with it later.
I ordered it because I'm highly interested in Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the
Stauffenbergs and thought it was important to see exactly what other
kind of thinking the people I admire were up against,
I didn't expect the book to be so full of History as the Nazis read it. I frequently had to
look up names and incidents on the internet. But I didn't find the writing as difficult as I'd
expected and wondered if the translator had done a bit of editing as well. I thought
the absence of footnotes was significant and also kept wondering where the author
had gotten his information from.
It's not difficult reading, just repugnant. And it did serve my purpose. But I hope
i won't now be bombarded with ads for other racist books.

One of the most interesting aspects of the book for me personally is the important difference that Rosenberg makes between the concepts of *love* and *honor*. Love, for Rosenberg, has been corrupted by the Christian church and has been claimed as the highest of all values in today's ultra-egalitarian society. Honor, however, goes beyond the often frivolous aspects of "love". It is in honor, according to Rosenberg, that man finds his sense of responsibility and decency. Once these are firmly achieved, true love will then find its own way.
It is often said that the Christian church gave Europe its civilization. Rosenberg argues that in fact, the opposite is true: It is European man that gave Christianity *its* civilization. This interesting argument is quite plausible when one considers that from the very beginning, the Christian church outside of Europe (ie, Africa, Asia, etc.) never developed the kind of cultural achievements that it did in Europe. In any event, Rosenberg's history of the Church is most intriguing.
For all his criticisms of Christianity, however, it is clear that he does NOT believe that Christianity has always been a totally corrupt institution all the way through. He discusses how some of Christianity's best ideas actually originated in various outside influences, specifically Zoroastrianism. This itself was later adopted and altered by Judaism; it was then further distorted in the religion built around the apostle Paul, which eventually became known as Christianity.
Again, I must stress that it is difficult to sum up everything, simply because there is so much intriguing content to absorb with this book. Highly recommended.
Rosenberg faults the Bible for teaching creation out of nothing, a 6,000 year-old earth, and the existence of Noah's Ark (p. 394). Unlike Hitler, who summarily dismissed Christianity as an effeminate Jewish invention, Rosenberg spends much time trying to "de-Judaize" Christianity, going as far as insisting that Jesus Christ was not a Jew. (p. 382)
The Jews-are-parasites theme of MEIN KAMPF is repeated by Rosenberg (p. 286). He also praises Emmanuel Kant for calling Jews "a nation of shopkeepers and swindlers" and Arthur Schopenhauer for calling Jews "the great masters of lies." (p. 434)
As for the Slavs, Rosenberg cites the Czechs as consisting of a Nordic-Slavic nobility and lower orders. (p. 57) This echoes the Nazi belief that all Slavic leadership, achievement, culture, creativity, etc., is produced by a thin upper crust of Slavicized Germans. There is no such thing as Slavic culture; it is all copied German culture. During WWII, Rosenberg's views on "race defilement" (pp. 373-374) were widely put into practice.
Nazism is sometimes conflated with nationalism. Actually, Rosenberg criticized it: "The old nationalism was manifoldly not sincere. It was a mere cover for large agrarian and industrial, and later, finance-capitalist, private interests." (p. 335). Genuine nationalism, according to Rosenberg, existed only when serving the needs of the Volk, and fused with socialism. (pp. 335-336, 338) In fact, Rosenberg commented: "Thus whoever wishes to be a nationalist today, must also be a socialist." (p. 336)
Indeed, there is no doubt about the fact that National Socialism was a form of socialism. In common with other Nazis (e. g., Goebbels), Rosenberg often attacked both capitalism and Communism, sometimes in the same sentence: e. g., "...bourgeois avariciousness, criminal Marxist insanity..." (p. 351) He praised Bismarck for having socialized the railways. (p. 336, 339)
National Socialism can best be understood as a racialist-socialist system that superseded all previous concepts of government, nation, etc. Rosenberg said: "Our new idea places Volk and race higher than the existing state and its forms. It declares protection of the people to be more important than protection of a religious creed, a class, of the monarchy or the republic." (p. 339)
The general thesis of his book will make the new generation, cultural marxist student sweat a lot--if they could even get through the first few pages. But in overview it basically asserts that races have uniquely defined souls--not to be confused with Spirit, which is absolute and therefore shared by all--which have common core principles. These require specific social environments to maintain health, creative force, and longevity. When things get too accultured, that common soul loses vital force, and therefore its identity (it becomes schizophrenic and creatively impotent). The result is a decline in its development and unique character. Multiculturalism will end up destroying all cultures and races; and there is an international group who desire this end.
So, this is not for the faint of heart. I suppose it isn't for everyone, most certainly not for those who want the ready-made, vaccuous morals of the policorrect academics whose mantras have now been beaten into the brains of most young intellectuals these days. Read this book with an open mind. It may lead you down the road toward deprogramming yourself some day--and shouldn't that be the goal of every reasoning human being?
