Praise for The Secret of the Indian

From the Back Cover

'Omri turned the page, cautiously, as if afraid of what he would find there. And he gasped with surprise…Someone else had taken over the writing! Was he never going to find out now the secret of the cupboard?'

After Omri reads his great-great-aunt's Account, he longs to try the key again. And when his friend Patrick comes to stay, nothing can stop him… Will there be more little figures that come to life?

"Eight-year-olds upwards are captivated by these stories."

The further adventures of Omri and the magical cupboard that brings his plastic figures to life. In this book Omri has moved house to the country, the magical cupboard is safely in the bank, the roof of the new house is thatched and while it is being repaired a diary is found along with an old money box in the old thatch that Omri manages to hide away for himself. Within the money box Omri finds four plastic figures come to life, does this mean the previous owner also had a magic key like Omri, a nice story for adults and children alike.

The section about losing Kitsa was a bit boring but tense. I kept thinking 'would they ever find Kitsa?' or 'would a Fox have eaten her?'.

I would recommend this 260 paged book to anyone who likes mysteries.

P.S: it was actually a 3 + 1/2 stars but I rounded it up mathematically so it is a 4 star.

I have enjoyed reading this series of books, which carries on from The Indian in the Cupboard. The Mystery of the Cupboard always makes you want to read more but I didn't always feel the urge to read it because I liked the little people in the story coming alive earlier on in the book, which is why I haven't given it 4 or 5 stars. This book also tells you a lot about history during the First World War. The book shows you how people would write a diary during that time. I enjoyed reading a lot.

The plotting grows better through the series. Another sub plot develops here, bringing Omri the realisation of the dangers the key opens his world and family to. An absorbing read for all ages. Thought provoking too.

another gripping and engrossing story from Ms. Reid-Banks, but a bit too drawn out and complicated.
