About the Author

Jules Verne was a French writer and pioneer of the science fiction genre through novels like Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, A Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Mysterious Island. A visionary, Verne wrote about air, space, and underwater travel long before the ability to travel in these realms was invented, and his works remain amongst the most translated, most continually reprinted, and most widely read books of all time. Jules Verne died in 1905 having paved the way for future science fiction writers and enthusiasts.

Yes, it is a great book and it is lovely to read the wide vocabulary used which modern day speech appears to have lost. My grumble is that it says it is "Illustrated" but the illustrations are about Jules Verne and have nothing to do with the story. This is why I have given it 3 stars.

This has been my favourite of the Jules Verne books which I have read so far....by quite a big margin. Forget the rather rubbish film version. This original story is much more plausible but still maintains a story with loads of action and excitement with great characters and a wonderful setting.
This is quite a big book but it didn't take long to read because I couldn't put it down. This is the J.V. book to beat for me.

This is an interesting book, but I think that it would be almost impossible to do the things these castaways did.
Jules Verne adds a great deal of facts to his books that readers become overwhelmed and pass over.

Unfortunately all these books I ordered are printed in so small letters that it is impossible to read. I wanted them for my son. Now I am sure without damaging his eyes he can't read it.

A splendid read. Do not be put off by the old films which bear only a passing resemblance to this story.
Very much advanced for its time. Highly recommended.
