3.0 out of 5 stars Jackson is a great story teller 1 Mar. 2015
By The Cause - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Jackson is a great story teller, and he has fascinating stories to tell, but it's really distracting to find serious grammar and spelling errors on just about every page, and this volume is the worst of the three. He gives his wife (supposedly a writer) credit for editing, but there's no sign of any kind of editorial oversight. It makes it hard to read.

For instance, it would have been common courtesy to take the minimal effort get the spelling correct, especially the name of Jackson's musical collaborators. But he just didn't bother. Essential copy editing and fact-checking are completely absent. An excellent trumpet player turns out to be a really poor writer. Imagine how Stax records would have sounded with a junior-high trumpet player instead of Wayne Jackson. The quality of this book is similar.

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete and statisfying account 1 May 2013
By R. A. Sissons - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
As a long-time fan of Memphis Soul music, I have read many books and articles about Stax, Hi, and other Memphis studios and musicians. Wayne Jackson's three volume biography adds a lot of detail to the year-by-year development of the sounds we heard, bought and danced to. Together with sax master Andrew Love, his partner in The Memphis Horns, the duo is responsible for a vast library of recognizable hooks and fills that brought so many sessions to life. Wayne's life story is a treat to read, even outside the context of his contributions to music. Buy all three volumes, read them in sequence. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great History By A Really Nice Guy 23 Dec. 2013
By oldanncr - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The history of some of the most legendary popular music ever recorded given to you first-hand from the legendary trumpet player whose horn is a key signature of so many great top hits over the years. This is an easy read, loaded with great stories! If you love music, particularly Memphis music, you should buy this set of three autobiographies.

5.0 out of 5 stars In my wildest dreams #3 25 Aug. 2013
By Richard Dale - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Last installment of Wayne Jackson's, life and career. You're starting West Memphis, Ark. and end up in Memphis. This volume takes you through the 80's till now. The variety of artists he recorded with, places he went. All there, the highs and lows. Memphis Horns are on more songs than one realizes. a great read. His website has a full discography . Buy them and enjoy..
