About the Author

I'm a spiritual adventurer, writer and compassionate guy ;) who sold all his possessions and reduced his life to a 75litre backpack and a laptop, to liberate himself from the chains of a materialistic and consumption-driven society, as my commitment to Love. I follow my Heart and write the story as it unfolds ... through the villages, cities and towns of Africa, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, my feet lead the way and I follow. Book Two is currently underway and upcoming. Check out the blog for insights and updates at http://iamphilen.wordpress.com

I did not finish reading it yet, but the book looks courageous, as well as his writer. The book is well written, easy to be read, offering lot of points for reflection.
The style is also different from books on similar topic: the whole story takes steps from an uncommon background.
It is also interesting to note that the writer, an African himself from South Africa, has an appalling approach the the Real Africa, as if he is coming from a different continent.
It is a pleasant book however while posing philosophical dilemmas.
I recommend it.

I found myself pulled into this novel early on finishing in the space of only a couple days. I related strongly to Philen's search for meaning and questioning of the status quo in his privileged upbringing in South Africa. I admired his courage to go on this Journey with so much uncertainty, perceived danger, and without a safety net. I found myself laughing, cringing and being concerned at the various situations he allowed himself to experience. Having never travelled in Real Africa I found myself wanting to be there with him experiencing it first hand. Philen's struggle between the amazing community of Ubuntu experienced in Real Africa versus the capitalism of his native South Africa reminds us all of the cost of pursuing wealth, security and self-interest. At times I'm not sure what was harder to believe, Philen's miraculous recovery after his accident or the amazing hospitality of the poor African communities. It is a novel that gives us hope in the potential of the human being to value each and every other human being, not based on the amount of money or connections they have, but on their uniqueness and humanness. Thank you Philen for sharing your story with us.

Philen Naidu. Inspiring
My Life My Africa
The book gets started as Philen decides he wants to travel Africa, so he drops out of university and starts his adventure, he then realises that he needs to support himself as pocket money from his dad has now stopped.
He sets off heading north from Cape Town and he arrives at passport control at the border of South Africa and Zimbabwe , after much delaying he crosses the Limpopo river and eventually enters Zimbabwe . He gets back on the bus and 5hours.later arrives in Lusaka which is the capital of Zambia .
Life in Zambia seems more relaxed and happier as well as very welcoming,
After eating elephants liver, goats testicles, and roasted field mice hair and all his adventure eventually takes a turn for the worse after an accident. This mans travels through Africa will open your eyes to a very different way of life. The story is very well told and a most enjoyable read.
5 stars. 06 August 2013.

It is quite astonishing how some very average writing gets published! There is hope for those out there who spend much of their lives bumming around doped out most of the time and using people who can least afford it.
