It was meant to be something of a jokey present but turned out to be the star of the show on her Birthday.
Things of note:
-The Keepon was a lot larger than I had thought he would be (have uploaded a photo of him next to a £10 note for reference (sorry couldn’t think of anything else?))
-Keepon takes 8 x AA batteries (not included) - with no mains power alternative
-Keepon comes with a basic instruction manual (all you need really), and a small sticker
-Keepon has two modes – dance and touch (one where he dances, the other where he is responsive to touch)
-Note ‘touch’ zones are really buttons so can feel a little clunky (but for the price, this is kind of to be expected)
-Not recommended for children age 0 – 3 (states this on box)
-Keepon is easy to use and once batteries are inserted there’s no stopping him (until you turn him off!)
After inserting the batteries my wife instantly pressed the ‘dance’ mode – and played a number of songs to Keepon and we all watched him dance, it was hilarious. I thought my wife would tire of him but after 30 minutes he was still going strong and so was she trying to find other songs for him to dance to.
I have uploaded an image of her current set up, again you should hopefully get a sense of the size of Keepon from this.
For Keepon to work best the songs really do need to have a strong and obvious beat. Keepon will dance then every 30 seconds or so will stop for a second, and listen to try and pick up any changes in the pace or beat of the song, then continue to dance.
Touch mode is fun but after 10 minutes of poking and prodding Keepon we think we’ve exhausted him of all his moves. The touch mode is fun but the longevity of this product is in the dance mode.
Certainly not a practical present, but fun nonetheless. Would recommend for adults that like the Keepon Youtube video, and children in general. My wife loves her Keepon (although she doesn’t use him all the time).
I've had him dancing to The Seekers - an album which is not known for big beats under any circumstances. So he's very responsive. I love the little fella. He's great :) He stands next to one of my audio speakers.
The packaging has to be cut to pieces in order to get the little blighter out, so I'm not at all sure how we would send it back if there is a problem. It requires a hand full of batteries and do bear in mind that there is no mains adaptor supplied by the manufacturers (a bit stingy of them), so that will mean another purchase. The 3.5mm plug on the adaptor we bought from Maplins wasn't long enough to reach into the unit, so make sure you get one which is long enough: good luck with that!
All-in-all, it gets an "er, well, is that it?" from me.
