Product Description

My Honor Was Loyalty is THE FIRST FILM FROM THE EMERGING GENIUS that is ALLESSANDRO PEPE. Set in the Second World War with stunning battle scenes and productions values normally associated with studio films ALLESSANDRO tells a history that few are brave enough to admit, let alone explore. This is the Story of Captain Ludwig Herckel a devoted and patriotic soldier of the SS Leibstandarte, He s fights in every major conflict from the Eastern front to the battle of the bulge. Fiercely loyal to his country and his brothers in arms, loved by his men, Herckel will face his greatest battle yet when he discovers the truth about the Nazi regime. This is the German Band of Brothers based on true events. It depicts a fascinating side of the second world war that was rarely told. A truly beautiful film that tells of loyalty, courage, sacrifice and truth it is not for everyone, but those who are courageous enough to stand we bring you

A WW2 re-enactment group has been used in the film. It's good for uniforms etc but battle scenes are also from a re-enactment event and are lacking any form of credibility. The acting is ok in places but mostly amateurish and the story line is basically sound but predictable i.e similar to Saving Private Ryan. It's NOT a German film but has lots of Italian actors . Overall the cover is misleading.

A Low Budget Achievement.

A story of one individual soldier in the elite S.S. Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler,Ludwig Herckel. For a film with a limited budget the cinematography is stunning, the musical score excellent and the battle scenes violent and convincing .Herckel fights in Russia, France and Italy is some of the most memorable battles of WW2 , becoming disillusioned as the conflict wears him down and claims the lives of his comrades. The ending is tragic.

They've obviously done their research with uniform details and equipment here; there's no ridiculous black S.S. uniforms, no First World War steel helmets. All the gear is spot on which is a refreshing change from other films with similar or even bigger budgets. The dialogue is in German too which adds to the sense of authenticity and, if you don't speak German, the film is subtitled in English

I would have given this film the full five stars were it not for the fact that it gets bogged down in anti Nazi sermonising about half way through the film. Still, I liked it and it's a film that managed to convey a convincing depiction of warfare without a big budget, that in itself being a success.

Must admit that I fell asleep after 20 mins of this very disappointing movie. This started off in a very promising way reminiscent of other but more deeply moving accounts of how war savages the life's of those touched by the horror of combat and fashions itself as a German Band of Brothers!!
Unfortunately nothing could be further from the truth as this movie reflects a whole host of private and poorly funded war movies that often litter the DVD shelves of our local Supermarkets that usually promise much....but sadly, deliver low quality, poorly acted, less than entertaining low value for money and very forgettable movies.
This movie fails to develop any meaningful storyline or build any real sense of any relationship between the viewer and the characters portrayed as there is no effort within the movie of character development. The early scenes quickly pass with no sense of the storyline building or offering no insight into the personality of the main characters therefore offering the viewer a number of random scenes of little to no meaning accerbated by irritating deliberate wobbling of the camera during the combat scenes aimed at somehow promoting artistic license but in reality was just plain irritating and gave one an headache by making it more difficult for the viewer to follow the action.
The only meaningful part of this movie was the historical accuracy of the SS combat uniforms in full colour that would be of interest to anyone interested in the German Armed Forces of this period or any German Army WW2 Reenactor.....otherwise you'd be better off keeping your pennies in you pocket and avoiding this movie at any cost!!

Very low budget. But more fundamentally, poorly acted and lacking plot development. Most oddly, I think the film is actually dubbed into German (not sure but perhaps from Italian) and then subtitled into English!!? Makes for very awkward viewing.

Very disappointing, it looks as though every battle scene was fought on someone's uncles farm. I almost fell asleep with boredom and the monotonous piano jangling in the background didn't help. The film is in German with English subtitles but only the top half of the words were visible on my TV (maybe the set up can be changed) so that didn't help either..!!!

Not a very good film....you could complain about the cheap production, effects, acting but it is after all a low budget film. Although that's not advertised! If you can get over the low budget feel of the film, I couldn't, then you are faced with a very fragmented story jumping all over the place, to go along with the camera work that made you feel seasick.
Everything about this film was one star, budget, story, visual effects, camera work, acting, sets....I could go on.
Save your money and go see your local war reenactment as this film is basically some local guy who videoed the weekend reenactment with a budget of £50.

First off any comparisons to this and the HBO made ‘Band of Brothers’ are about as accurate as comparing the work of Debussy to Weird Al Jankovic . It is about Untersharführer Ludwig Herckel (Leone Frisa) who leads the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. Whilst doing so he bonds with some of the men in his charge. We see them on various battle fronts.

They ‘fight’ with some men dressed as Russians and later on some Americans. That is about it – and we have an unbelievable bit about a Jewish woman. The film is shot mostly using the shaky camera bit – we all know this is done in a vain attempt to make the on screen ‘action’ look better than it is. However, something does have to actually happen on screen for any maintenance of the pretence of action to be even in the foothills of believable. The uniforms are mostly ok, and some of the weapons looked good. The acting is pitiful in places and when people die they have to have watered down tomato ketchup spread across their mouths.

The ‘battles’ are a bit am dram and clearly done by re enactors but despite putting up the names of different locations on the screen it is a bit obvious that they are fighting in the same field with the same armour etc. Also CGI planes that fly impossibly low, muzzle flashes and smoke that are photo shopped on – the list is quite long.

Then to add insult to injury it gets all preachy about both sides being guilty of crimes at the end but the Nazis are only blamed because we had the temerity to win – to the victor the spoils etc. The film starts out by saying it is non political and then goes out of its way to be apologist propaganda for Hitler fans.
