This is an superb budget priced collection of hits and album tracks by arguably Motown's greatest male vocal group The Temptations that ranges from the doo wop influenced I Want A Love I Can See from their debut album Meet The Temptations to the funky soul of Superstar from the Norman Whitfield produced Solid Rock. It includes huge early hits like My Girl alongside the psychedelic soul of Ball Of Confusion, Cloud Nine and Psychedelic Shack. Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin were amongst the very greatest soul singers as was Ruffin's replacement Dennis Edwards and check out the under rated Paul Williams on lead on Don't Look Back. The Rolling Stones were massive Temptations fans covering both Ain't Too Proud To Beg and Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) while The Faces with Rod Stewart tackled I Wish It Would Rain and I Know I'm Losing You and reggae legend Peter Tosh (with Mick Jagger) recorded Don't Look Back. The Temptations originals are all here and are better in every case. Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue) is a favourite of the UK mod and Northern Soul Scenes and though only a minor hit is a truely irresistable while Since I Lost My Baby (written by Smokey Robinson and later covered by mod legends The Action) is one of their most soulful with a magnificent lead from David Ruffin. Every track is a winner and this is a great celebration of The Temptations fantastic catalogue compiled and annotated by Mojo Magazine's Lois Wilson.

Featuring twenty tracks from the group that was 'The Temptations', their harmonies are so distinctive you always know when they are singing, and with their great vocals and catchy songs they sold millions of records, and still do. This is a great selection that is well worth having, and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the audio quality of this. I did sort of expect that some of the tracks would hiss and be slightly inferior, but this just isn't the case.

With a fair representation of Motown this is full of soul, doo-wop and rhythm and blues and is ideal listening. From one of the greatest male groups of all time sit back and listen to this great album.

Formed in 1960, the American male vocal group The Temptations have somehow managed to endure - in one form or another - to the present-day. But only a tone-deaf contrarian would argue against the widely held belief that their best work came in the first decade (and a bit) of their career. This cheaply-priced and cheap-looking 20 track CD - one in a dizzyingly large discography - shows some discernment in choosing to follow the soul group's work up to their funky 1972 single 'Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)'.

It begins that task in the early 1960s, with their Smokey Robinson-penned doo-wop classic 'My Girl'. It was their first US pop Number 1, and captured what is regarded as the classic line-up of the group - tenors' David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks and baritone Paul Williams - in their prime. That is followed by perhaps their finest moment - the euphoric R&B tune 'Get Ready'. That powerful pair are supported by some of the remarkable series of tightly-arranged, Norman Whitfield-produced singles they created in the same spell such as: 'Ain't Too Proud To Beg'; '(I Know) I'm Losing You', and 'I Wish It Would Rain'. These efforts illustrate why they were one of Motown's flagship's acts and how they provided an elegant counterpoint to the earthier soul of Otis Redding and other acts on the Stax and Atlantic labels.

At various intervals My Girl intersperses those efforts with material from the very end of that decade and the early 1970s - a transitional period when under the influence of Sly and the Family Stone's rock-inflected jams, some line-up changes, and the emergence of the new lead singer Denis Edwards - the group started making gospel-influenced, wah-wah-drenched lightly-psychedelic soul. That metamorphosis brought mixed results.

A very good collection of early Temptations, with a few later examples. It is a cd that I play over & over again, because it is such a great collection of songs & hits, some just memorable: You're My Everything; My Girl; Ball of Confusion whilst most of the rest add to the many contrasting singing styles of this wonderful group.
It certainly whets one's appetite for purchasing more Temptation albums ...

The ''My Girl '' by The Temptations took me back down memory lane. I was brought up on Motown music and it is still a big part of my life. The sad part of it is that i believe only one original member is still alive, the others have long passed on. The Temptations were and still are very popular today, and long may they continue, as their vocals are superb. I will be buying more of their cd's in the very near future.
Thank you,
Miss B. M. Swift.

As a huge, huge fan of The Temptations (the original group) who could probably be described as the original "boy band" I'm more than happy to listen to any of their music any time and this is now possible after easily downloading this superb track on to my Kindle
