Judged by almost any traditional rules of cinematic criticism this would be adjudged a terrible movie... BUT, if you accept it for what it was intended to be then it's a lot of fun and absolutely perfect for a night in with beer and pizza. Providing, that is, that you aren't offended by fountains of blood, fetishised Japanese schoolgirls and females who can make a chainsaw appear from their backside!

Yes, you've got it... it is tasteless in the extreme but deliberately so. The violence (and there is a LOT of violence) frequently involves unbelievable dismemberment and ridiculous mayhem but it is done in such a cartoonish and unreal way that it provokes a smile rather than a grimace. This is basically a lighthearted movie really, despite the jawdropping stuff that goes on.

The fact that the three mutant girls are really beautiful helps of course, as does a pretty good blu-ray transfer.

If you enjoyed 'Machine Girl' or the wonderful 'Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl' then you will love this.
And, as another reviewer has pointed out, despite what it says on Amazon, the blu-ray is region-free and will play on UK players no problem (though the DVD copy that comes with it IS region 1.)

Yet again Japan unleashes its next manic blood fest!! If you love mad cult Japanese movies like machine girl and robogeisha then this will certainly please, its a crazy story about a group of girls that all have a strange mutation making them special and are forced to stay secret from humans until their leader decides its time to rise up and destroy humanity but one girl half human will stop them!! There is buckets of blood and gore as you expect and a beautiful cast of Japanese schoolgirl mutants, there is some very imaginative imagery and effects both practical and CGI, overall its great fun and theres nothing quite like it so make sure you dont miss out, the bluray is region free for us in the U.K and there are some good features too.

One thing first. My (imported) disc is actually Region free, despite what it says on the case (it really does have a Region One icon on it), and happily plays in my Region 2 Playstation 3. However, it is NTSC and not PAL - which doesn't bother actually most modern DVD players, but it's best to check your player will play NTSC discs (you may already have one or two, especially music DVDs) before buying.

Basically, I can't add much to other reviewers comments about this film, just to say that octopus girl, chainsaw bottom girl, and blade-breasts girl definitely do appear, and it's all very silly. Oh, and the extra for Yoshie (octopus girl) showing her early life is even sillier, but still good fun.

Edit a few days later: Oh, and another thing. My disc (DVD) is 16:9 widescreen - not letterboxed - and not 4:3 as stated in the product description. This is listed correctly on the sleeve, and I've just checked the film itself and yes it is 16:9. I don't know if this applies to the Blu-ray but I suspect it does. I'm interested in the Blu-ray stats as I'm thinking of getting the HD version, especially now I know THAT is region-free as well.

Another edit: I now have the imported from US Blu-ray and it IS region free, again despite claiming on the sleeve that it is Region A. Go on, get Yoshie the cute tentacled cosplay nurse into YOUR life!

I love the j-sploitation flicks from these guys and this is another great addition to the catalogue. I would rate it as being better than The Machine Girl but still not up to the greatness of Tokyo Gore Police. This is more Noboru Iguchi than Yoshihiro Nishimura and I prefer Nishimura. All the usual stuff is on offer - the super hot japanese girls, the surreal gore effects of Nishimura, the ultraviolence and all other things bizarre. Really all that seperates these films to favour one from the other is actors, storyline and vibe and although I like this one, it's not my favourite.
I should mention also that for dvd, the picture and sound are excellent!
