3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a backup Strat, but not a main guitar. 31 Oct. 2016

Bought this to put into a '93 MIM Squier I found at a pawn shop with dead pickups. They will not be staying in the guitar (plan to get a 920D Gilmour pickguard), but I needed a backup electric with single coils to use and this is, as noted by others, dirt cheap. I bought these with VERY low expectations on how they would sound.

-These pickups (at least the ones I got) are actually silent, and have zero hum, which I found shocking for the price.
-With the exception of the screws and an output jack, it comes with everything needed. Just solder the ground and the output jack, and you're ready to play.

-These pickups are BRIGHT and BRITTLE, often sounding like nails on chalkboard when playing high on the neck. Depending on what you're playing through, you WILL need to trim the highs, and possibly even the high-mids if you can.
-As noted by others, you WILL need to drill new holes into your guitar for the screws. Be sure you have the tools to do so, or at least be able to improvise the tools to do so. Also, you may need to shave the neck area of the pickguard a bit depending on what type of neck your guitar has.
-The switch will occasionally pop when using it.
-The tone controls leave a lot to be desired. You have a lot of mud, then maybe a few degrees of something playable, then nails on chalkboard.

As I stated, I bought this to use for a backup guitar. You can get some interesting sounds out of it when running it through an effects chain, but it will never be something you'll play leads on.

So, if you need some pickups for a partscaster that will be a backup to your main Strat, these will do. However, don't expect them to sound better than the pickups in your main Strat, especially if it's an American Fender.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Decent!!!! 1 Aug. 2014

If you want expensive tone, go buy expensive. But I must say for $25 this loaded pickguard is amazing. Yea its cheap but so are you for buying this. Plastics have cheap dull white look. Knobs respond very well, stiff but roll well. Selector is tight and snaps into place without crackling. Wiring is really easy and they leave you more then enough room to mess up a few times. Tone for clean is so bright and chrisp. Distorted is decent, mainly for clean tones. I used this setup in a studio and the pickups had little to no hum. Thats where they excel for the price. I hands down reccomend to anyone. Also I recieved package with one broken volume knob, but was quickly and polietly reembursed.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the money. 25 Jun. 2016

These pickups sound surprisingly good. I bought them because I didn't want to go through the hassle of wiring up a Strat from scratch. The pots are the very small dime sized cheapos but they do the job. Way better than I expected for the price. The only complaint is that the pickguard isn't the right shape, it's pretty close, but the rout near the controls wasn't completely covered by the pickguard. But I had a spare pickguard to switch the pickups onto. But still a good deal. Sounds like a Strat. What more could you ask for?
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value! 8 Aug. 2016

Great value! I have an old Squier Strat II that I grew up playing on. The electronics were all screwy because it was the previous owner's project guitar. This guitar was with me for over 20 years and I wanted to make it a bit more playable but didn't want to invest too much into it. For $15, I feel like I got such a great deal. It's got a bit of noise and the switch has a bit of a popping. But it's great for jamming out at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 4 July 2016

Unbelievable. For less than $10 you get a loaded 3 ply pickguard, wired and ready to go. I had to fill and drill a couple of holes since it didn't line up exactly to the old guard. Worked perfectly on my squire strat rebuild.
