I know I had the Turina on LP but not sure if I had the Debussy who was a composer I had hitherto paid scant regard to. This CD has pushed Debussy firmly into my orbit and I have followed up the Turina with CDs of deFalla, Granados and Albeniz as renewed interest took hold..

Apart from the Debussy, the music of Turina proved most disappointing - no great character, just a collection
of lukewarm pieces that somehow sounded a bit Spanish. Not much wrong with the actual recording.

HASH(0x99884e64) out of 5 stars Sounds like De Falla's lost music 1 Jun. 2003

I am excited to find new music especially when it's good. Turina offers a clearly spanish style of composing that would be at home with Manual De Falla who I am familiar with. Turina is his own man and I hear nothing derivative here, just some deliciously melodic and interesting material. Of course the playing is excellent with wonderful clarity in the wide-range recording.

HASH(0x9b24d834) out of 5 stars Splendid! 29 Aug. 2011

This disc is splendid - the works are colorful, the performances, by the first - rate Cincinnatti Symphony, are scintillating and of the highest quality. The Debussy is both gorgeous and stunning - and Debussy is followed by all of the Turina works that are unfamiliar but oh so enchanting in their Spanish exoticity. Turina's orchestral works should be heard more often! Just about anyone would love this disc, as Spanish - flavored music is very appealing. Telarc produces some of the best sounding discs around - this one has exceptionally fine quality sound.

HASH(0x9a436ae0) out of 5 stars Magnificent recording, both musically and technically 16 Jan. 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
What a fitting departure for the great Jesus Lopez-Cobos, who is leaving the great Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in superb shape after a 15 year tenure. This recording will unfortunately be overlooked by many because it is not Mahler, Bruckner, Beetoven, etc. This is unfortunate, however, as it is a magnificent work of art on all levels. On the basis of this and other CSO recordings over the past decade it it clearly time to reassess the American "Top Five" orchestras---and proclaim the Cincinnati among the greats.

HASH(0x9a126234) out of 5 stars Spanish visions 27 Dec. 2008

Jesús López Cobos was born and educated in Spain, so he understands spanish rhythms much better than other conductors. As a spaniard my self, I can tell you that it makes an enormous difference.

The quality of this recording is excellent, so is the performance of the Cincinnati Symphonic Orchestra.

Very recommended.

HASH(0x9a19b120) out of 5 stars Good all round 23 July 2003
By P. SIMPSON - Published on Amazon.com
You might not want to hear the music very often, - though in fact its great fun, with the slow movement of the Sinfonia Sevillana being quite lovely, but you will want to hear the sound, which is gorgeous, if a little drily analytical in DSD fashion.
