Remember those old tv shows from the 1950's and how they portrayed the future? Everyone living in outer space on some distant planet, flying around in little rocket ships and eating pills that mimicked a three course meal? Well Esquivel is the man who would be providing the soundtrack to those relaxing afternoons in a futuristic batchelor pad. All the unconventional instrumentation used in his recordings still make the music sound new and relevant and still have that space age vibe, even in the year 2013. Lush, dazzling, epic, evocative music that evokes images of the future or a beach in Mexico. Wonderful stuff yet again from a true pioneer of stereophonic sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars What can you do when your love's not true? 4 Jan. 2006
By Johnny Heering - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
One of the best things to come out of the lounge music revival of the 1990s was the rediscovery of Esquivel. Esquivel released several albums of instrumental pop music back in the '50s and '60s, but unlike many of his contemporaries in the field of instrumental pop, his music is actually interesting. He experimented with oddball instrumentation and weird stereo effects, which make his records very fun to listen to (not to mention that he was an excellent arranger). This CD was the second compilation album of his material. It's not quite as good as the first one (Space-Age Bachelor Pad Music), but it's still very good. The material is a bit weaker the second time around, but it still features some great tracks, like "Granada" and "Question Mark". The lounge music revival may be over, but Esquivel is still worth listening to. It's nice that he got to experience the renewed interest in his work before he died.

4.0 out of 5 stars another great Esquivel starter CD 18 Jan. 2002
By Elwood Conway - Published on Amazon.com

Bar-None really did a wonderful job on the booklet for this release. The tune selection is really fine as well. This is a great way to introduce yourself to Esquivel's world. But be prepared to want MORE once you become ensnared by the music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Mackeral! 1 July 2015
By Nick Pusloskie - Published on Amazon.com

Love this CD. It was suggested by people that listen to the Retro Cocktail Hour on Kansas Public Radio. If you like Exotica - and if you are looking at this CD, then you must - and you don't have all his releases - then hit the "buy" button.

My favorites: Cachita; Cachito; Third Man Theme; My Blue Heaven; All of Me; Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.

This artist has an imaginitive approach to arrangements in his music, using
an array of instruments and sounds to give the songs a new dimension.
A real fun trip into space age pop.

4.0 out of 5 stars damaged jewel box 6 Jun. 2012
By Robbiex - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
the music is, as expected, Sparkling. I recommend this buoyant, fizzy, glittering item to any lover of all things Lounge.

My complaint is with New Jersey NJ Music and Movies, from whom it was purchased. Buyers beware. I chose this item from this seller because the price was good and it was listed as "Like New". It arrived well after all of the other items (from multiple sellers) I'd ordered at the same time, and the jewel box was damaged in several places inside and out. Live and learn, but I won't be ordering from them again.
