HASH(0x90a75180) out of 5 stars A Sentimental Souvenir of a Beautiful Occasion 1 May 2011
By Grady Harp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
April 29, 2011 has past but the minds of people around the world will always recall the wedding ceremony of the Royal Wedding. This collection is a souvenir of selected works from a very broad range of music that is meant to stir the memories of not only this wedding but also the wedding and, sadly, the funeral of Princess Diana. Some of the music is hail and hardy British pomp and some quieter reminders of songs that hold true for the new couple as well as the previous perfect wedding.

Hopefully someone recorded the entire ceremony's music, including the anthem John Rutter wrote specifically for the occasion - 'This is the day which the Lord hath made' - as well as the Paul Mealor 'Ubi caritas et amor', commissioned for the wedding. Until that time this new recording will serve to fill the gap so that those deeply moved by the ceremony will recall that day well. Grady Harp, April 11

MUSIC FOR A ROYAL WEDDING, by Silva America, contains many wonderfully beautiful musical pieces. Some were even played at various royal weddngs of the past. This is truly elegant music -- no doubt about it.
However, one must be aware that this is "Music For ___A___ Royal Wedding", not for ___THE___ Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

Although all the pieces here are certified classics, the compilation reminds me a little bit of a record album we bought long ago. During the "big buzz" about the then newly-released "CLEOPATRA" movie, with Elizabeth Taylor, Rex Harrison and Richard Burton, someone had recorded his OWN music, inspired by the movie. This was clearly written on the record album's sleeve -- (and it really was nice music) -- but it was NOT the music from the movie.

So, if you want the music from "THE Wedding of the 21st Century", look for the OFFICIAL album.

The album here being reviewed makes a nice companion piece -- but, though some of the pieces here WERE played at SOME royal weddings, I don't think that ALL of them were actually played at ANY royal wedding.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. For more official music from ANOTHER recent Royal Wedding, PLEASE take a look at the Music from the Royal Swedish Wedding of 10th June, 2010. This was a completely delightful and fairy-tale-come-to-life Royal Wedding, as well. The official album for this Royal Swedish Wedding includes some totally enchanting, dignified, hopeful, and
uplifting music, just as has the official album from the Royal British Wedding. Too few people saw the Royal Swedish Wedding, because it was not broadcast, but webcast. Yet it was really wonderful! (A DVD is out of that weddng, as well -- but, sadly for those of us in the USA and Canada, it's presently only available in Region 2. Why this is has to be one of the world's present greatest mysteries. Or so it seems to me....

Anyway, both the official CD Albums for the Royal British Wedding, and Royal Swedish Wedding albums are superb. If you want the "real thing", you will go with these albums. And get albums such as the one herein being reviewed, only as companion albums.

The music wasn't recorded well, sound quality was not very good and I was very disappointed that the music from the play "Henry V", which was played before the wedding, was not included. I guess I didn't read the Amazon description closely enough---my fault. Am still searching for music from the wedding that does have "Kiss Her Soft Lips and Part".

The rendition of "I Vow to Thee, My Country" is excellent - the local classical music station plays it often
