A drug fuelled accident causes Jay to lose his memory completely, he recovers physically and becomes a new person with the help of a great character 'Sloaney' a social worker who sees the potential in him and gets him on his feet. He creates a new life and name Jon, and falls for the sweet girl Kitty who hopes for more, but something is missing for Jon, he just doesn't know what until an accidental meeting with a waitress, Del, causes flashbacks and the feeling inside that there is something bigger and better to be had, if only he can remember. Everything inside tells him he should be with her, his muscle memory remembers what his mind can't , the chemistry is red hot but how much does he owe the girl who's been by his side since he became Jon? The raw emotions, anger, frustration, hurt, love and loss are described so well. A really good read.
The first half of the book goes back and forth to who he was and what happened and then interestingly about finding his way back to some semblance of a normal life, and the frustration of just not knowing.
I really did enjoy the story, but I think to really love a story you have to love the characters also, and this I found hard. I didn't like John before his accident and I didn't really like the love of his life; so I kept putting the book down and then picking it up again hoping that he wouldn't revert to who he was!
Definitely worth a read as it's quite thought provoking and would read more by this author.
I was really moved reading this I can't imagine being in this kind of situation.
Waking up and having no idea who he is is a scary reality for a guy who's now known as Jon.
Eventually the only thing he can remember is her, someone he can't picture but he feels in his soul.
This was a beautiful love story that was different and I loved it because I could feel the connection between the characters.
I could feel how hard Jon struggled. To not know the man looking back at him in the mirror everyday. My heart broke for him.
A fantastic story that will stay in my memory for sure.
It's a beautifully written about about life, love and happiness and I loved it !!!
This isn't like anything of Stylo Fantomes I have read before but has shot very close to the top of my favourite reads by her.
Oh this book is firmly on my favourite list, before I even finished reading it was. I love this authors work and her ability to make you feel you are right in the midst of the story as it unfolds. Muscle Memory is my new favourite, a beautiful heart wrenching story of self discovery in more ways than one and of how strong true love is.
We meet the main character as he awakes in a hospital bed with no recollection of how he got there or who he is. The hospital call him John Doe, case number 438643. He has a head injury and broken bones but no one to claim him, he's alone with his few belongings found on him including a mood ring. Who is John Doe, or Jon as he prefers?
The author takes us on a twisted journey as Jon recovers and tries to build a new life for himself, as he meets new people and has the odd sensory reminder of his past that his brain refuses to compute. The story is told with before/after chapters where we get to discover Jon in his past life and I felt almost guilty in learning his past when he couldn't but it was beautifully crafted to bring us to the current junction of Jon's life.
Delaney Carter was the centre of Jayson Fairbanks world, a crazy existence on the edge fuelled by parties and drugs until their world crashed and burned. Seeing their crazy love in the before chapters was heartbreaking but once their paths collide is when I reached for the tissues and needed them for the rest of the book. Jayson is alive and has no idea who Delaney is other than the feeling he has when she's near. Is it better to not know the truth when it can tear you apart or learn the deepest dark details of who you are?
Jon/Jay and Delaney's story is a heartbreaking but beautiful story of love conquering all that life can throw at you and of how sometimes you have to make sacrifices to allow for someone else's happiness.
This book is one that is going to stay with me for a time to come and one I can't say loudly enough that you need to read this one.
