This is a very touching, heartbreaking true story of the tragedy of the totally senseless murder of Rachel Moran. I remember the case and her mum mentions the name of her killer forever being linked to her daughter's name but I'm happy to tell her I remember Rachel (from the photo on the cover) but I don't remember ever hearing HIS name.
It's doubly sad to read the dedication to Vanda, another of her daughters at the beginning and to realise she lost another child before her time was due as well. You have to wonder how someone goes on after this.
And what did the killer gain, really ?? Power over another person for the sake of half an hour, perhaps ? It deservedly cost him his freedom for probably the rest of his waste-of-space life and left a family devastated. Just....why ??
I was interested to learn her official date of death needs to be the date she was found and not the date she was killed and I loved the remark by her mum-he wasn't fit to lick her boots. Good for her.
I did spot some apostrophe errors and some dropped hyphens and at one point she mentions her son being called for the defence which I found totally baffling only to learn further on that it was for the prosecution which made much more sense !! I had wondered about the friend found with the killer and his involvement after the remark he made to the police when they visited. That made it seem like he DID know something, actually.
A very good read although you also feel a little intrusive reading it, too.

This is a wonderfully written story of the murder of the author's beloved daughter Rachel - it is so tragic and particularly poignant in that the family were not allowed to say much about the case until the trial of the killer was held. The defence tried to blame the killing on a totally innocent man and it makes one wonder how a defence barrister can get away with raising such bogus claims with no censure - the heartbreak such accusations caused is palpable.

You simply must read this book

Sidenote to the publisher: I found the book error-free in the main but I was very disappointed to find the Contents page had a great many errors when citing the chapter page nos.

Rachel's mothers writes with such honesty and bravery. She makes no attempt to hide her thoughts and feelings even if they might seem sometimes to be a little 'non-pc'. This harrowing account describes a family whose much loved youngest child, grown into a beautiful young woman starting out on her own life goes missing as she makes her way home on New Years morning. It is a candid account which has been generously told by a grieving and angry mother as she reveals from her own diary the hours, days, weeks and months that follow as police begin their hunt for missing Rachel.

I have been gripped and overwhelmingly saddened for this family as I turned each page. I am in awe of Wanda's courage and strength.

A very moving account of a mother's grief..raw, honest and at times distressing. I hope that Rachel's family manage to find some peace.

Very sad tragic true account of a wonderful family and their sad loss. I feel so sorry for them. The world is a ugly place full of ugly murderers. I wish this family some kind of happiness in the future. I know they will never have a perfect day again . X to you all.

How very sad, almost too painful to read at times as you get pulled in to her family's despair. A detailed day to day account of the misery of such an awful murder. The verdict at the end gets you holding your breath waiting for the outcome. The diary section in the middle is a arduous read but what else could it be in the circumstance.
Here's hoping some happiness returns in some way to her family.
