A lovely little read where the delight is not so much the plot as in the main character herself. I hope this is the first of many P.Parker mysteries. OK, I know this sounds a cliche, but I really couldn't put the book down once I'd started it. V.highly recommended for cozy mystery fans who have an hour or two to spare.

I liked the storyline. It felt like a good summer read. I would say this would appeal to anyone who doesn't want anything to deep. Something that can be picked up and down with ease. Nice short paragraphs. It's a bit of fun. She is damn near perfect though!! I gave it 4 stars mainly because I felt the ending a little rushed.

A wonderful book that I could not put down! Real and warm characters and a great story line - I didn't guess whodunnit until the reveal. Highly recommended!

I've read other works by this author, those being her very inventive and enjoyable takes on Sherlock Holmes. This is a bit of a departure, although still in the broad category of the amateur detective, this time more along the lines of a young Miss Marple. A young Miss Marple who happens to be married. And heavily pregnant.
It might not be my usual choice of reading matter, but the aforementioned Holmesian works were so good that I went into this with still reasonably high expectations.
The main character, Pippa Parker, is a very well-rounded one (no pun intended...) and easy to identify with (although as a man, I've never actually been eight-and-a-half months pregnant, even if I look it), but the supporting cast are also fully formed with lives of their own. The plot isn't the fast-paced thriller that will leave you gasping for breath by the end, but carries the gentle pace and rhythm you might expect from the small out-of-the-way village the story is set in.
Ultimately, although I wouldn't have picked this off the shelf as an introduction to a new author, it's a satisfying change of pace from one I trust. Yes, I prefer her Holmes efforts, but this will keep the Agatha Christie fans happy for a few hours. I would recommend this clever and funny story to anyone with even a passing interest in the genre.

Pippa is juggling moving house, pregnancy, village politics, a toddler, an annoying mother in law and an absent husband. On top of this, she finds herself embroiled in a murder. But she's too feisty to let any of that distract her from investigating the mystery for herself. With delightful characterisation and a well structured plot, the pace of this book was excellent. I found it hard to put down and was kept guessing right to the end. I loved this book and if you like Rebecca Tope or Ann Granger, you'll really enjoy this. Am looking forward to the next in the series.
