About the author

Born to British Army parents, Viveca grew up in Europe and speaks six European languages fluently, which basically means she can buy food (and wine), wherever she goes. Married, with two biological children, plus four adopted children. Now, years later, the kids all grown up, she is an international best-selling author, writing a variety of genres, her favorite being exceptionally dark and twisted suspense romance/ murder mystery / Saga's.
She loves to get under people's skin and into their minds. Her books are for broad minded intelligent readers and not for the faint hearted at all, specializing in plotlines with shock elements that make some readers become violent with their Kindles. You will either love or hate her fictional characters, there is no in between with her writing. Her stories are unforgettable.
Her hobbies, when not writing, include playing the cello (or trying to), and various other things that involve sitting down. All the athletic hobbies (horse riding, ski-ing, fencing, sailing etc) have now been put on the back burner so she can exercise her mind instead!

The story starts with 5 main characters who are sitting in a hospital waiting room to find out if Matt has survived. The only thing is that every one of them wishes him dead! I actually quite naively couldn't understand why a group of people who hate someone so much and didn't think it was justified, until about 30% in, Yes at that point I HATED that man and it only got worse! Everything that you imagine happened but it was 100 times worse than you first thought!
Matt is a very sick, disturbed individual, sadistic in nature who poisoned and ruined everyone around him, he wove a web of pain and suffering which then rippled out to affect friends and family around them. Think NASTY and times it by a billion!
He managed to get his wife Ellen sectioned for 6 months to take over her finances and even while she was in a secure clinic his evil sadistic behaviour knew no bounds! His sister has always been scared of him and when he finds she is happily settled down he does the unthinkable! Even at this point I thought it couldn't possibly get worse BUT by hell it did!
When Ellen finally got out of the clinic and managed to inform everyone around her of what was happening I was cheering and commending her! That she found the strength to fight against him and take charge of her life and put an end to all the suffering Matt had caused.
I really loved the individual stories that explained everybody's side and how they found themselves in Matt's company and how he had totally wrecked their lives!
This is a book I wont forget!
The story was a multi faceted one and surrounded the life of Matt and those who were unlucky enough to know him, marry him, work with him and be related to him. Matt is the epitome of type of man who your mothers hope you will never meet; gorgeous, charming and completely deranged. He is abusive and despises women although he is happy to make them his slaves or to enjoy the wealth they have amassed.
I enjoyed the four threads to this story with the four people he has wronged, debased, cheated and affected all trying to escape his clutches. It’s not long before they realise that the only option available to them, to rid him from their lives permanently, is.... to murder Matt.
There were some downsides to the story aside from the dark theme. I took the abuse and darkness at face value, it was no different to what is depicted in film scenes and I agree with another reviewer, the scenes were not included for titillation. The author handles them carefully and reasonably tastefully but at the same time the writing was poorly executed on occasion.
I found that the story jumped around a lot as scenes were skipped and time frames were glossed over. Attention to detail was lacking throughout the story as names were quoted incorrectly and events omitted or forgotten about. I would have expected these points to have been addressed at the Beta stage, assuming there was one. There were also some grammatical and spelling errors which took the shine off the story for me. I'm a firm believer that if you pay good money for a book it should be carefully proofread before it is marketed for sale.
To sum up, all in all it was a moderately captivating story which was sadly spoilt by some inaccuracies. The plot was a bit too obvious, lacked depth and was overly simplistic but I can still see no reason to ban it when films and real life portray the issues covered in this book in a more graphic way. One scene was particularly disturbing and I suspect that is what has affected some people and again it could have been written more carefully with the “less is more” attitude. Lets face it, scenes are quite often expanded in our own minds without needing to be written in graphic detail.
I am tempted to read on and to see what made Matt the way he is but I will leave that story for another day. His character really does rankle and your blood boils with wrath and I too want to murder Matt!
This book starts at a hospital with Matt in critical condition and leads us from the past up to this current point via interweaving the lives of Ellen, Dean, Veronique and Nico via their pov, all who are connected via the charismatic Matt, ex racing driver and currently wealthy playboy. This cunning, handsome and successful man is the devil in disguise whom you learn more about throughout the book. The two women in this book showed such strength and fortitude I was in awe of them and thought their tragedies were handled well.
This is a darkly disturbing read, but also shows what truly happens in reality when obsession overwhelms a person, their drive knows no limits or boundaries and that looks can truly be deceiving. The ending was fitting and left you with a little bit of uncertainty, thinking can all events ever be fully forgotten?
I agree with the review above in that the book deals with difficult subject matter and therefore it isn't for the faint-hearted. Things like this do happen in real life though and very well done to Viveca for being brave enough to write about them and for doing it so well!
It's easily one of the best books I've ever read! I would thoroughly recommend it!
The author mentions that there will be sequel coming soon! I can't wait to read it!
