the story itself requires very little to enhance its own quite incredible drama, and Jeremy Josephs uses a very light touch, allowing the tale to unfold almost by itself. He writes with an easy style and a wit that makes this book very very enjoyable indeed. Considering the subject matter.
Slightly unpolished with a fifties flavour, the book was interesting and entertaining: I liked the pen pictures of the Jersey police particularly and their desire to be seen as competent enough to solve the big case!
I think they'd have got away with it altogether if Roderick had kept his trap shut. Everyone knew they'd probably done it but there was no proof whatsoever till he ran off at the mouth.
There were mistakes in the book I'd not expected. Maybe formatting errors but an e-book needs editing and proofreading the same as the printed word. Hyphens were plonked in here and there for no reason and fullstops too and there were a LOT of Americanisms which I found annoying-like realized or inquiries. Not quite sure why as I thought the author was a Brit. Maybe not. Then spelling errors popped up here and there and missing words then Jerome changed to Jer6me. That lost it one star for me.
One of my favourite lines in the book was "Boy, have we got a surprise for you". I thought that was wonderful !!
